The Toronto Maple Leafs must win to keep their NHL playoff hopes alive when they collide with the Boston Bruins for Game 5 of their series on Tuesday, April 30.
The @MapleLeafs, @NYIslanders, @NHLJets and @PredsNHL will all have a shot at extending their opening-round series with Game 5 wins. How many teams will we see force a Game 6 tonight? #StanleyCup#NHLStats: https://t.co/P69nD4z0pp pic.twitter.com/6WQZzyiZZL

The Bruins are now one win away from advancing to the second round following a 3-1 victory in Game 4. Brad Marchand scored the game-winning goal halfway through the second period as Jeremy Swayman stopped 24 of the 25 shots he faced.
Can Boston win again to continue its Stanley Cup journey? Or will Toronto find a way to stave off elimination?
Game 5 is shaping up to be a massive night, so let’s dive into my Maple Leafs vs. Bruins predictions to talk about my picks and favorite NHL bets.

Maple Leafs vs Bruins NHL Game 5 Predictions & Pick (4/30)
The Maple Leafs’ backs are officially against the wall with Game 5 taking place tonight. It isn’t new territory for these teams, though. Boston was also up 3-1 when facing Toronto in 2013 and 2018 only for both games to end with a Game 7.
Having said that, the Maple Leafs need a much better effort this evening if they want to continue that trend. Toronto’s offense has been non-existent for the most part thus far, being outscored 14-7 by Boston through the first four games. Sheldon Keefe’s ‘Core 4’ — Auston Matthews, William Nylander, John Tavares, and Mitchell Marner — have only combined for three goals between them.
Meanwhile, four Bruins players have recorded multiple goals, led by Marchand and Jake DeBrusk, who have three apiece. Boston is also 3-0 SU when it has scored at least three goals this postseason.
Special teams is another area where the Maple Leafs are struggling. Not only are they just 1-for-14 (7.1%) on the power play, but they’ve also allowed the Bruins to score six times on 13 power-play opportunities (53.8% penalty kill success rate).
The Bruins’ Jake DeBrusk has stepped up throughout this first-round series.
Time will tell if injuries will play a factor in Toronto’s ability to stay alive. In addition to Bobby McMann being day-to-day, Matthews is expected to be a game-time decision after exiting Game 4 with an undisclosed illness. Having said that, he did practice on Tuesday morning, which bodes well for his chances.
As for the Bruins, they don’t have any new injuries to report outside of Andrew Peeke and Matthew Poitras remaining sidelined.
With that being said, I predict that the Bruins will win tonight. The Maple Leafs appeared to be checked out by now and we’ve reached the point where there’s a bit of in-fighting between their top players. The Bruins are more than good enough to take advantage of the dysfunction, putting them on the right path toward advancement.
And while each of the Bruins‘ three wins came by two or more goals, let’s stick with the moneyline. The Maple Leafs should be desperate to play their best hockey tonight, so I won’t be surprised if this game is decided by only one goal.

Best Maple Leafs vs Bruins NHL Game 5 Player Prop (4/30)
There are plenty of Maple Leafs vs. Bruins player props to check out, but I’m going back to what works: Jake DeBrusk to record o.0.5 points (+102).
DeBrusk has been killing it this postseason, ranking second on the Bruins with five points through four games. Game 4 was the first time that the 27-year-old forward was held pointless in this series, meaning the Over is 3-1 thus far. In fact, the Over is now 12-5 in his last 17 meetings with the Maple Leafs.
Considering how he was on a seven-game point streak against Toronto before the last matchup, it’s clear that betting on DeBrusk works more often than not as far as this Atlantic Division rivalry is concerned.
Best Maple Leafs vs Bruins Prop Bet: Jake DeBrusk o0.5 Points (+102)
