See Picks & Statistics For The GameFor the third straight season, the Los Angeles Kings face the Edmonton Oilers in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. In the previous two seasons, the Oilers have escaped, winning in 7 games in 2022 and 6 games last season, but can they handle business in Game 1 tonight?
The Oilers ended up 2nd in the Pacific Division, 5 points ahead of the Kings who held on to 3rd place and stayed out of the Wild Card. Now they face off in the first round once again.
Will we see the same result? Or can the Kings finally get past Edmonton?
Let’s take a dive into this game and find our best bets.

Is This Finally the Oilers Year?
The Oilers have arguably the most offensive talent in the NHL, yet they can’t seem to get it together during the playoffs. Two seasons ago, they finally made it to the Western Conference Finals, but were swept by eventual Stanley Cup Champion, the Colorado Avalanche.
Last year they were also knocked out by the Champions, as they lost in six games to the Vegas Golden Knights.
This season things might be different. But not so much in the first round. Once again, we have the Kings vs the Oilers in Round 1, with Game 1 being played North of the Border. The past two season, the Kings have escaped with a 4-3 victory in Edmonton in Game 1, and they are certainly capable of doing that tonight.
The Oilers won the regular seasons series 3-1, most recently beating the Kings 4-1 at home in late March. In two games in Edmonton, the Oilers have looked like the much better squad. They are a bit of a heavy favorite today, but I still think they come to play.
I’ll be backing the Oilers tonight.
Los Angeles Kings vs Edmonton Oilers Best Bets
Best Bet: Oilers in Regulation (-104) Bovada
The past two games between these teams, the Oilers have proven to be the deeper squad. In their 4-2 win in late February, the Oilers found themselves down 1-0, and 2-1, battling back both times they were down. Eventually 2 goals in the 3rd period set them over the top.
In late March, the Oilers won 4-1 and dominated from start to finish. Edmonton led 1-0 after 6 minutes, 2-0 before the 3rd period, and 3-0 just 5 minutes into the last period. The Oilers started off hot and never looked back.
I expect them to do the same tonight. After losing Game 1 in both first round series at home, I think the Oilers come incredibly focused and take care of business at home.
