The Edmonton Oilers look to advance to Round 2 of the 2023-24 NHL playoffs when they take on the Los Angeles Kings in Game 5 on Wednesday, May 1.
"We’re expecting them to have the same desperation they had the pervious game."

The Oilers took the 3-1 series lead with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Kings in Game 4. Evan Bouchard scored his first postseason goal on the power play and Edmonton never looked back as Stuart Skinner turned aside each of the 33 shots he faced.
Can Los Angeles win to force another game at home? Or will Edmonton take one step closer to hoisting the Stanley Cup?

Kings vs Oilers NHL Game 5 Predictions & Pick (5/1)
Based on how this series has gone so far, it’s hard to have much faith in the underdogs. The Kings have been outplayed throughout the series, being outscored 18-10 through the first four games, which includes a minus-6 goal margin in the last two matchups alone. Los Angeles hasn’t even scored since five minutes into Game 3’s second period.
And even though the Kings defeated the Oilers once already, that victory came in overtime. In other words, there’s a chance that Jim Hiller’s team would’ve been swept had Edmonton’s puck luck been a bit better that time.
Clearly, the Kings don’t have an answer for the Oilers’ top players. Connor McDavid leads the series with 10 points while Leon Draisaitl and Zach Hyman aren’t too far behind with eight and seven, respectively. Even Bouchard and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins are performing at a point-per-game pace.
Meanwhile, Los Angeles has received little production outside of its Quinton Byfield-Anzer Kopitar-Adrian Kempe line. It certainly doesn’t help that the trio of Viktor Arvidsson, Kevin Fiala, and Phillip Danault only have one goal between them.
Connor McDavid and the rest of the Oilers’ stars have been lighting up the Kings so far.
A lack of special teams success is another reason why the Kings find themselves in a bad spot. While the Oilers own a whopping 53.3% power-play percentage (8-for-15) in this series, the Kings have failed to score on each of their 11 man-advantage opportunities. You just can’t expect to beat a team like Edmonton if you can’t convert on the PP.
As far as goaltending goes, I imagine that the Kings will turn to David Rittich again. After Cam Talbot played poorly through the first three games, Rittich made 12 saves on 13 shot attempts in Game 5.
As for the Oilers, they’ll expect more of the same from Stuart Skinner following his shutout victory. The 25-year-old netminder has been solid throughout this series, playing to a 2.48 goals-against average and .919 save percentage. Additionally, 8-2 SU in his last 10 games against the Kings.
Will Stuart Skinner continue his impressive play between the pipes?
Even though nothing is guaranteed in sports, the Oilers won’t lose this game. Edmonton has outplayed Los Angeles throughout this series, which includes completely shutting down the latter’s offense in the last two games. As long as the Oilers stick with what’s working, the Kings will likely need to start making offseason plans.
As for the best bet, let’s ride with Edmonton on the puck line. The Oilers already own two multi-goal wins over the Kings in this series and are outscoring the latter by an average of 2.0 goals per game. Unless the favorites forget how to play hockey, winning by two or more goals is a real possibility.

Best Kings vs Oilers NHL Game 5 Player Prop (5/1)
If you’re looking for a Kings vs. Oilers Game 5 player prop, consider taking the Over on Evander Kane’s 2.5-shot total (-112).
Kane has excelled at creating offensive chances in this series, sitting second on the Oilers with 16 shots on goal. He’s finished with this Over on this prop in seven of his last 10 games dating back to the regular season, as well as in three of four postseason matchups.
Having also finished with the Over in five of his last six home games, I can’t help but love the odds that we’re getting here.
Best Kings vs Oilers Prop Bet: Evander Kane o2.5 Shots on Goal (-112)
