See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe 2022-23 NHL season continues on Thursday, Dec. 29 with a handful of matchups, featuring a Western Conference showdown between the Los Angeles Kings and Colorado Avalanche. Both Los Angeles and Colorado have been doing a lot of winning lately, but only one side can be victorious tonight. Needless to say, many fans can’t wait to see how the latest Kings vs Avalanche clash unfolds.
The Kings were in action on Tuesday, picking up a 4-2 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights. Phillip Danault and Viktor Arvidsson each had three-point nights for the Kings, who have now won five of their last six games and haven’t lost in regulation since Dec. 13.
Meanwhile, the Avalanche also played two nights ago, but the final result was hardly in their favor. They ended up losing 6-3 to the Arizona Coyotes on the road, putting an end to the former’s four-game winning streak. However, Colorado has won three straight games at home, making it interesting to see if that trend continues tonight.
As with most notable matchups, there are plenty of betting opportunities in this Kings vs Avalanche tilt. Here’s a look at BetOnline Sportsbook’s latest odds for the games, as well as a prediction and the best bet to make, courtesy of Betting News.

Kings vs Avalanche Prediction and Picks
Kings vs Avalanche Prediction: Kings 3, Avalanche 2
Kings vs Avalanche: Kings ML (Best Value: +128 at BetOnline) & Under 6 Goals (Best Value: -114 at BetOnline)
Even though the Avalanche are on a bit of a winning streak at Ball Arena, there are still reasons to be wary tonight.
For starters, the injury bug has been piling up for the Avalanche this season, affecting their ability to decisively win games. Prior to losing to the lowly Coyotes, Colorado had won three straight games — all in overtime or a shootout, proving that those games could’ve easily resulted in a different way.
It’s also hard to have a ton of faith in the Avalanche after allowing six goals to the Coyotes, who had never scored that many this season.
Meanwhile, the Kings enter tonight’s action rush off of a win against the Western Conference-leading Golden Knights. A big part of Los Angeles’ victory was that its centers won 53.8% of faceoffs, which is encouraging given that Colorado has a team faceoff percentage of 46.4% this season — sixth-worst in the NHL.
Even though the Avalanche have beaten the Kings six straight times at Ball Arena, all streaks eventually must come to an end. Los Angeles has been playing well on both sides of the puck lately, outscoring opponents 15-9 over the last five games while outshooting them 166-129.
Daily Faceoff projects that Pheonix Copley will start tonight for the Kings, which would be a massive boost. The 30-year-old goaltender has won each of his last five starts, recording a 1.92 goals-against average (GAA) and .929 save percentage (SV%). Furthermore, he’s also a perfect 2-0-0 in two career starts against the Avalanche.
Meanwhile, the Avs must role with either Alexandar Georgiev, who allowed five goals on 32 shots against Arizona, or Jonas Johansson, who’s yet to start this season and owns a 1-8-2 career record with a 3.40 GAA and .888 SV%. In other words, the Kings clearly have the goaltending advantage.
The Kings are doing all the right things right now while the Avalanche are tough to trust, leading to my prediction that Los Angeles will win tonight. As a result, it’s best to go with the Kings on the moneyline and at +128 odds, you really can’t go wrong.
I’m also backing the total going under six goals. The total has gone under in six of Los Angeles’ last seven games, as well as in each of Colorado’s last eight at Ball Arena. With the total also going under in 10 of the last 14 Kings vs Avalanche matchups, it won’t be a surprise if it’s another low-scoring contest tonight.
