See Picks & Statistics For The GameTuesday, Jan. 17’s NHL schedule includes an all-Canadian matchup between the Winnipeg Jets and Montreal Canadiens. This is the second and final meeting of the 2022-23 regular season between these foes after Winnipeg won 3-2 in overtime back in November. Needless to say, it’ll be interesting to see who comes out on top of the latest Jets vs Canadiens matchup.
The Jets enter this game as one of the hottest teams in the league, going 8-1-0 in their last nine games. Their latest victory was a 2-1 win over the Arizona Coyotes on Sunday, highlighted by goals from Pierre-Luc Dubois and Blake Wheeler while Connor Hellebuyck stopped 20 of the 21 shots that he faced.
Meanwhile, the Habs are fresh off of a 2-1 victory against the New York Rangers over the weekend. Montreal hasn’t won back-to-back games since the end of November, though, leaving time to tell if the Habs can change their luck against the surging Jets tonight.
As with most notable matchups, there are plenty of betting opportunities in this Jets vs Canadiens tilt. Here’s a look at BetOnline Sportsbook’s latest odds for the games, as well as a prediction and the best bet to make, courtesy of Betting News.

Jets vs Canadiens Prediction and Picks
Jets vs Canadiens Prediction: Jets 4, Canadiens 1
Jets vs Canadiens: Jets -1.5 (Best Value: +110 at BetOnline) & Under 6.5 Goals (Best Value: -130 at BetOnline)
It’s hard to dislike much about the Jets during their recent nine-game run. Over that span, they’ve outscored opponents 35-22, keeping the opposition to two or fewer goals in seven of those matchups.
The Jets’ special teams units have also been phenomenal over that span. When it comes to the power play, Winnipeg has been incredibly efficient, converting on 8-of-26 opportunities (30.8%) during the last nine games. Now, Rick Bowness’s team gets to face the Canadiens, who own the 11th-worst penalty kill (75.2%) this season.
Even when the Jets have gotten into penalty trouble of their own, I’ve managed to kill off the ensuing power play more often than not. They’ve killed 27 of the last 29 penalties they’ve taken, equating to a 93.1% success rate — above their 83.9% mark on the season, which happens to be No. 2 in the NHL.
Considering how the Canadiens own the third-worst PP unit in the league (16.2%), the Jets will hardly be in trouble if their players wind up in the box.
Speaking of players, the Jets have several individuals playing at point-per-game rates over the last nine games. Dubois and Mark Scheifele each have 11 points in that time period while Kyle Connor leads the way with 14.
It’s also been hard trusting the Canadiens at the Bell Centre lately. Montreal is 3-7-0 in its last 10 home games, allowing an average of 4.1 goals in those contests. In fact, the Canadiens have allowed at least four goals in five of their last six home outings.
There’s also the fact that the Jets rarely lose when the odds are in their favor, going 17-4 straight up as the favorite this season. They’ve also won each of their last three meetings against the Canadiens and I don’t see that trend ending with how good Winnipeg has been over the last few weeks.
Taking the Canadiens’ recent home struggles and poor special teams into account, I see the Jets winning tonight by a couple of goals. Montreal has allowed a ton of goals at home lately and with Winnipeg’s offense clicking, the Jets won’t have any problems covering the 1.5-goal spread.
I also recommend taking the under on the 6.5-goal total. After all, the under is 8-1 in Winnipeg’s last nine road games and 4-2 in Montreal’s last six overall. With the total also going under in four of the last six Jets vs Canadiens matchups, this game should finish with fewer goals than expected.
