The Hurricanes opened up this first-round series with a 3-1 victory on Saturday. Three different Carolina players had multi-point efforts as goaltender Frederik Andersen shut the door on 33 of the 34 shots he faced to help the Canes take an early advantage.
Will Carolina build off that momentum with another victory? Or will New York pull off an upset to even the series before it’s too late?
With plenty of betting opportunities on the horizon for tonight, let’s stop wasting time and dive into my Islanders vs. Hurricanes Game 2 predictions and NHL best bets.

Islanders vs Hurricanes NHL Game 2 Predictions & Pick (4/22)
If the Islanders want to even this series, they must find a way to solve Hurricanes netminder Frederik Andersen. After scoring eight minutes into the game, New York couldn’t get another puck past the Swedish goaltender, failing to score for the next 52 minutes — which included going 0-for-2 on the powerplay.
The Islanders’ Semyon Varlamov was also solid between the pipes, but the two goals that the Hurricanes got by him made the difference. Evgeny Kuznetsov scored the first goal on the power play less than two minutes into the game while Stefan Noesen registered the game-winning marker early in the third period.
The faceoff circle was another area where the Islanders struggled as the Hurricanes won 58.6% of the draws. Carolina had the advantage in the physical department, too, outhitting New York 27-19. Physicality always takes a leap in the NHL playoffs, meaning the Isles must find a way to toughen up.
Can the Hurricanes put the Islanders in a 2-0 stranglehold tonight?
The Game 1 loss was a rare one for the Islanders, who are now 8-2 SU across their last 10 games. Having said that, that success doesn’t extend to their recent history with their Metropolitan Division rivals.
After all, the Hurricanes have won 10 of their last 14 games against the Islanders, outscoring them 45-33 along the way. Although New York defeated Carolina twice during the 2023-24 regular season, it’s been the latter that has won the last two meetings 7-2 on aggregate.
It’ll be tough to doubt the Hurricanes if Andersen stands on his head again. The 34-year-old goalie has been electric lately, going 12-2-0 with a 1.42 goals-against average, .948 save percentage, and three shutouts in his last 14 appearances.
Varlamov has also been solid, though, playing to a 7-2-0 record, 2.00 GAA, and .934 SV% with a shutout in his last nine starts. At the same time, the Islanders netminder is 2-4-0 with a 3.03 GAA in his last six meetings with the Canes.
Even though Islanders G Semyon Varlamov has been playing well, he hasn’t had much recent luck against the Hurricanes.
While I expect a better effort from the Islanders tonight, the Hurricanes will emerge victorious. Carolina has been playing like a Stanley Cup contender since the beginning of the 2023-24 campaign and has proven that New York is no match. As long as Andersen continues to thrive in the crease, the Isles will struggle to win any game in this series.
Let’s also take the Under on the 5.5-goal total. After all, the Under is 4-1 in the Islanders’ last five games and 10-5 in the Hurricanes’ last 15. That’s without mentioning how it’s also 5-2 in New York’s seven previous road outings on top of eight of Carolina’s last nine home games failing to reach their projected totals.
Assuming that both goaltenders pick up from where they left off, we likely won’t see much offense this evening.

Best Islanders vs Hurricanes NHL Game 2 Player Prop (4/22)
While a few Islanders vs. Hurricanes player props stand out, I’m taking the Over on Andrei Svechnikov’s 2.5-shot total (-148).
Even though he didn’t score in Game 1, Svechnikov still led all Carolina players with six shots on goal. He’s now hit the Over on this prop in three of his last five games, averaging 3.8 SOG during that stretch. That’s without mentioning how the Over on this prop is also 6-3 across his last nine home games.
Having now finished with three-plus SOG in all but one of his last four meetings with the Islanders, I’d be surprised if Svechnikov doesn’t make good on this wager again.
