See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe 2023-24 NHL season continues on Friday with a solid six-game slate. Two of the better Eastern Conference teams will be in action when the Carolina Hurricanes collide with the Florida Panthers at Amerant Bank Arena for a 7 p.m. ET tilt.
The Hurricanes needed overtime to win their last two games, most recently notching a 3-2 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday. Funny enough, the Panthers also won back-to-back overtime games ahead of this matchup, most recently beating the Washington Capitals 4-3 two nights ago.
BetOnline’s futures odds have these two foes near the top when it comes to winning the Eastern Conference. Carolina currently sits at +525 odds (No. 2) to win the conference while Florida is slightly further back at +1200 (No. 6).

Hurricanes vs Panthers Prediction & Pick (Nov. 10)
Tonight’s clash is one between two of the Eastern Conference’s hottest teams.
The Hurricanes have been on fire since late October, going 5-1-0 in their last six games while holding opponents to 1.8 goals per outing. Meanwhile, the Panthers have picked up points in six of their seven previous games, playing to a 5-1-1 record during that span.
Special teams success has been key to Carolina’s latest run. The Hurricanes have played well on the man advantage over the last six games, scoring on 5-of-15 power plays (33.3%) while killing 88.9% of penalties.
The Panthers, on the other hand, haven’t been that successful outside of 5-on-5. During their seven-game stretch, their power play is only clicking at 16.7% while the penalty kill has been fairly average at 82.4%.
With the Panthers being 4-1 at home this season, winning in Sunrise seems like a daunting task on paper. However, that might not be the case.
The Panthers' plus-4 goal differential across four home games isn’t that special. That’s without mentioning how their last two victories came by one-goal margins. For reference, the Hurricanes are 5-1 straight up in one-goal games this season.
Sergei Bobrovsky, who’s most likely Florida’s starting goaltender tonight, has also been inconsistent lately. Although he picked up a shutout win just eight days ago, Bobrovsky has three save percentages of .893 or worse in his last four games.
At the same time, Carolina’s Antti Raanta is 3-0-0 with a .924 SV% and 1.65 goals-against average with a shutout in his last three outings.
With both teams playing well, I expect a tight contest. Having said that, I like the Hurricanes a bit more than the Panthers. Carolina’s a deep team that’s been aided by consistent play between the pipes and on special teams, which should help keep Florida at bay once a lead is taken.
Nevertheless, I do like the Over on the 6.5-goal total. Both clubs have seen a fair amount of goals to begin the season. Not only is the Over 6-3 for the Hurricanes on the road, but each of the Panthers’ last three games featured seven or more total goals scored.
Hurricanes vs Panthers Prediction: FLA wins
Best Bet: o6.5 Total Goals (-110 on Bovada)
Hurricanes vs Panthers Best Player Prop
As one of the top offensive defensemen in the league, I love the idea of Brent Burns hitting the Over on his 2.5-shot total tonight.
Finishing with more than 2.5 shots shouldn’t be hard for Burns, who’s averaging 2.8 SOG in his last 10 outings. He finished with the Over on this prop in five of those games with three of those instances taking place on the road.
Considering how he registered five or more SOG in three of his last five meetings with the Panthers, I see Burns coming through on this prop again.
Bet: Brent Burns o2.5 Shots on Goal (-135 on Bovada)
