The Golden Knights were successful in the second outing of their four-game trip, picking up a 3-2 win over the New York Islanders on Tuesday. The Rangers, on the other side, notched the seventh loss in their last 10 contests, falling 3-2 to the San Jose Sharks in overtime earlier this week.
Despite one team struggling at the moment, both are viewed as potential championship threats this season. Vegas is currently tied for the fourth-best 2023-24 Stanley Cup odds (+1100) while New York is in a three-way tie for eighth at +1200, per Bovada’s futures markets.

Golden Knights vs Rangers Prediction & Pick (1/26): Can NYR Stop the Bleeding?
The Rangers were pegged as Stanley Cup contenders before the 2023-24 NHL season even began, but they haven’t looked like much of a threat in recent weeks, going 3-5-2 over a 10-game stretch.
Considering how the Rangers were held to two or fewer goals in six of those games, their best players must step up. While Adam Fox, Artemi Panarin, and Vincent Trocheck each have at least five goals during the last 10 games, the quartet of Chris Kreider, Mika Zibanejad, Alexis Lafreniere, and Blake Wheeler have only combined for six goals during that span.
The Golden Knights have been fairly average offensively this season, averaging 3.17 goals per game (16th). However, as of late, Vegas has stepped things up in its opponents’ zone, averaging exactly four goals over the last five games. Jonathan Marchessault leads the way with five goals during that time, picking each marker up in his last five outings.

In fact, the Rangers have first-hand experience with how dangerous the Golden Knights’ attack can be. It was only on Jan. 18 when Vegas picked up a 5-1 victory over New York at T-Mobile Arena. Ivan Barbashev scored two goals — including the game-winner — while goaltender Logan Thompson turned aside 29 of the 30 shots he faced.
Having said that, the Rangers have the home-ice advantage this time around at Madison Square Garden, where they’re 5-2 SU in their last seven home games. Meanwhile, the Golden Knights have lost seven of their last eight road contests while being outscored by an average of 1.9 goals per game.
When it comes to goaltending, the Rangers do need Igor Shesterkin to play better, though. The reigning Vezina Trophy winner has struggled lately, going 2-3-1 with a 3.03 goals-against average and .873 save percentage in his last seven starts.
At the same time, the Golden Knights would love for Adin Hill to keep up his electric play. He’s been rock-solid ever since the 2023-24 began, going 11-2-2 with a 1.93 GAA, .935 SV%, and two shutouts.
G Adin Hill has been a key factor behind the Golden Knights’ success throughout the 2023-24 campaign.
Even though they haven’t had much road success lately, I’m taking the Golden Knights to win. Bruce Cassidy’s club already proved that it could easily handle the Rangers last week and even though the scenery is shifting to MSG, New York’s recent play doesn’t exactly inspire confidence. It could very well wind up being a close game, but Vegas is in a better spot to win.
I also have no issue taking the Golden Knights outright on the moneyline. After all, Vegas is a solid 10-7 SU as the underdog this season with victories in four of their last five games when the odds aren’t in its favor. The Rangers are struggling to produce results regardless of whether the odds favor them or not. Considering how they looked good in their upset win over the Islanders on Tuesday, I like the value that comes with a VGK outright win tonight.

Best Golden Knights vs Rangers NHL Player Prop (1/26)
After looking through the Golden Knights vs. Rangers player props out there, I like the idea of Chandler Stephenson recording at least one point.
Even though Stephenson is experiencing somewhat of a down season, averaging 0.59 points per game (compared to 0.8 last year), he’s upped his play lately. The 29-year-old center has seven points in his last six games, registering at least one in five of those contests — even recording an assist against the Rangers last week. He now has recorded at least one point in three of his last four encounters with New York.
With the Rangers struggling to keep the puck out of their net, look for Stephenson to make his presence felt in some form.
