See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe Calgary Flames begin a five-game road trip when they travel to face the Seattle Kraken on Friday, Jan. 27. This is the third and final Flames vs Kraken matchup of the 2022-23 NHL campaign after the two sides split the first two meetings, leaving time to tell whether Calgary or Seattle will emerge with the season series win tonight.
The Flames enter tonight’s contest following a 5-1 blowout loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday. Calgary currently occupies the Western Conference’s second wild card spot and trails Seattle by six points for first place in the Pacific Division, meaning a win tonight is crucial.
Meanwhile, the Kraken have some momentum on their side following Wednesday’s 6-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks. Five different Seattle players had multi-point performances, including Oliver Bjorkstrand, who scored his eighth and ninth goals of the campaign.
Tonight’s Flames vs Kraken matchup offers several betting opportunities that you won’t want to miss. Here’s a look at BetOnline Sportsbook’s latest odds for the game, as well as a prediction and the best bet to make, courtesy of Betting News.

Flames vs Kraken Prediction and Picks
Flames vs Kraken Prediction: Kraken 5, Flames 2
Flames vs Kraken Best Bet: Kraken ML (Best Value: -115 at BetOnline) & Over 6 Goals (Best Value: -114 at BetOnline)
There isn’t much to like about the Flames after getting destroyed by the Blackhawks — the second-worst team in the entire NHL.
Calgary was dominated in the faceoff circle (56.1% vs. 43.9%), went 0-for-3 on the power play and turned the puck over 11 times compared to Chicago’s six turnovers. That’s not even to mention the fact that Flames goaltender Jacob Markstrom only stopped 24 of the 28 shots he faced.
I have a hard time believing that the Flames will bounce back after how inspiring they’ve been on the road. Heading into tonight’s contest, Calgary is just 9-15 straight up in 24 away games those far. Furthermore, Darryl Sutter’s club has lost four of its last six road games, allowing at least four goals in three of the last five.
Meanwhile, the Kraken are one of the hottest teams in the league, going 10-2-1 in their last 13 games. Players on all four lines are contributing to this impressive run, highlighted by the fact that 12 different individuals have at least eight points over that stretch.
The Kraken are also 5-3-1 in their last nine home games, scoring four goals in as many of those victories. Having said that, Seattle lost 3-2 to Calgary at Climate Pledge Arena the last time these sides met back in December, so it’ll be interesting to see if this result is different.
The Flames will likely turn to Dan Vladar between the pipes after Markstrom’s ugly performance. The 25-year-old is 9-0-3 with a 2.72 goals-against average (GAA) and .903 save percentage (SV%) in his last 12 starts.
While Vladar’s record over that span is solid, his save percentage is telling. He finished with a below-.900 SV% in six of those contests — including each of the last three. Furthermore, Vladar has surrendered at least three goals in each of his last three outings.
Meanwhile, Daily Faceoff points to Martin Jones starting for the Kraken. The veteran netminder has impressed lately, going 9-1-0 with a 2.20 GAA, .915 SV% and two shutouts in his last 10 games. On top of that, he’s won six straight games against the Flames, tallying a 1.81 GAA and .947 SV% over that span.
At the end of the day, the Kraken’s depth and goaltending gives them the edge tonight. The Flames are a good team when they’re on top of their game, but it’s hard to have faith when they were blown out by one of the NHL’s worst clubs.
When it comes to the best bets, the first is to take the Kraken at -115 on the moneyline. It also helps that the Flames are 3-8 straight up as underdogs this season.
For the second bet, I recommend the over on the 6-goal total. After all, the over has been hit in four of the Kraken’s last six games and the Flames have seen an average of 7.3 goals scored in their last three. On top of that, Seattle and Calgary have averaged seven goals in their first two meetings of the season.
