See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe Edmonton Oilers find themselves in Music City for the 2nd time early in this NHL season, as the Nashville Predators host them in Bridgestone Arena. Now this is the 2nd time these teams will face each other early in the season, with the Oilers taking down the Preds on October 17th, winning 4-2. Two weeks later, the Predators host Edmonton again with a chance to get their revenge.
The Oilers are coming off a horrendous loss to the Blue Jackets and are currently on game 3 of 4 on this roadtrip. Edmonton is also without their star, Connor McDavid, who is out for about the next two weeks. The Oilers are just 4-5-1 on the season but are 2-2 on the road. They will also be starting Calvin Pickard between the posts tonight. He has a 2.91 GA/G and saves 87.5% of shots faced in three games this season.
The Predators will be looking to bounce back at home along with getting their revenge, as they lost in overtime to the Lightning on the road last time out. They’ve actually gone into OT in their last two contests, winning 3 of their L4 to get to 3-5-1 on the year. Things are starting to trend in the right direction for Nashville, but they still have a long ways to go and a tough matchup tonight.
Can they pull off a win at home tonight? Or will the Oilers take down the Predators in Nashville once again?

Predators Look for Revenge Against Edmonton
McDavid was injured just 37 seconds into Edmonton’s contest on Saturday, and is now out for the next two weeks. The Oilers lost 6-1 on the road to Columbus in a very poor showing all around. They produced just 1 goal on 32 shots, while Skinner allowed 6 on just 25 shots, posting a .760 SV%. Now in this matchup, the Oilers have at least been able to game plan around not having McDavid. All eyes will be on Leon Draisaitl to captain the offense and take over when needed.
As for the Predators, they lost 5 straight to open the season. Since then, they are 3-0-1 and coming off a loss to the Lightning. We are expecting Saros to be in net once again, posting a 3.10 GA/G and a .914 SV% so far this season. However in his last 3 games, Saros allows just 1.67 goals per game and is stopping over 94% of shots faced. If he continues to play like this, I like Nashville’s chances against a depleted Oilers offense. McDavid leads the team in assists and is tied with Draisaitl in points, so Edmonton will need some skaters to step up and produce chances in his absence.
Both teams absolutely pepper the net and do a great job of limited chances, however the goals for and against do not reflect such. Let’s break it down.
Edmonton Oilers
- GF/G: 2.20
- SF/G: 34.3
- GA/G: 3.50
- SA/G: 26.1
Nashville Predators
- GF/G: 2.56
- SF/G: 35.9
- GA/G: 3.44
- SA/G: 28.2
Here we have two teams who combined for 70 shots per game but score less than 5, but allow nearly 7 combined goals on just 55 attempts. Clearly goaltending needs to improve for both teams, while opposing tender’s regression is hopefully on the horizon as well.
Edmonton Oilers vs Nashville Predators Best Bets
Oilers vs Predators Prediction: Predators Win 3-2 (+750)
Best Bets: Under 6 (+105) BetOnline
Now, there are some 6.5s out there priced at -120ish if you’d rather go that route. But for plus money and push potential, I’m fine with the whole number here. Without McDavid, I don’t see the Oilers giving the Predators defense much trouble. It completely hinders Edmonton’s attack, leaving a big burden on Draisaitl’s shoulders to take over and make some plays. With Nashville being able to focus fully on just one man, I’m confident in them being able to slow the whole squad down.
As for totals this season, Edmonton is 5-3-2 to the Under 6 this season, while Nashville is 4-4-1 to the same number. I trust the goalies woes to decrease, leading to some better play between the pipes. With Saros already playing better, and Skinner taking some time off in favor of Pickard, I think both goalies can keep up under this number tonight. But it will certainly be sweaty.
