See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe NHL has several exciting matchups planned for Tuesday, Jan. 10, including a showdown at PNC Arena between the New Jersey Devils and Carolina Hurricanes. This is the third meeting of the season and Carolina has already won the first two clashes, making it interesting to see who takes home the victory in the latest Devils vs Hurricanes collision.
The Devils have been unable to build consistent momentum lately, winning only four of their last 14 games. The good news is that they’re entering tonight’s action with some momentum on their side, having picked up a 4-3 overtime win against the New York Rangers on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Hurricanes have been stuck in a rut, losing each of their last three games. They fell 4-3 in a shootout to the Columbus Blue Jackets in their latest outing, leaving time to tell if the Hurricanes can get back on track at PNC Arena.
As with most notable matchups, there are plenty of betting opportunities in this Devils vs Hurricanes tilt. Here’s a look at BetOnline Sportsbook’s latest odds for the games, as well as a prediction and the best bet to make, courtesy of Betting News.

New Jersey vs Carolina Prediction and Picks
Devils vs Hurricanes Prediction: Devils 4, Hurricanes 2
Devils vs Hurricanes: Devils ML (Best Value: +134 at BetOnline) & Devils +1.5 (Best Value: -194 at BetOnline)
Facing the Hurricanes has been a struggle for the Devils thus far. New Jersey has lost both games against its division rival thus far, losing 4-1 on Dec. 20 before falling 5-4 in a shootout on New Year’s Day.
Having said that, the Devils have at least won twice since the last meeting, whereas the Hurricanes have lost three straight outings in that span. One of the reasons why Carolina lost those games is that it can keep the puck out of its own net, surrendering 13 goals and allowing opponents to go 6-of-13 (46.2%) on the power play over that stretch.
Now, Carolina must face New Jersey PP unit that is clicking at 25% (5-of-20) over the Devils’ last five games.
Hurricanes goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov — who Daily Faceoff lists as the starter for tonight —has been terrible in his two appearances during his team’s skid. The 23-year-old netminder has a 4.07 goals-against average (GAA) and .852 save percentage (SV%) in his last two starts.
Considering how the Devils have scored at least four goals in four of their last five games, it could be a long night for Kochetkov if he doesn't make key saves early on.
It’s also worth mentioning that the Devils are one of the best road teams this season, boasting a 14-2-1 record in away games. They’ve won three straight road games, outscoring opponents 13-5 over that stretch while converting on the man advantage twice.
Even though the Devils have lost seven of their last eight games at PNC Arena, the Hurricanes haven’t been playing well enough lately to convince me that the trend will continue. The defense that Carolina is known for hasn’t been there lately and until it reappears, New Jersey’s play on the road has me backing the Devils tonight.
At the end of the day, the Devils are the more consistent team lately and should be able to get the job done in Raleigh. They’re the underdogs heading into this matchup, which is why I can’t help but recommend taking them at +134 odds on the moneyline.
I also recommend backing the Devils at +1.5 on the spread. I don’t see the Hurricanes winning this game by two goals, so even though the value isn’t amazing, taking New Jersey to cover the spread is another option worth considering.
Either way, expect Carolina’s dominance of this Devils vs Hurricanes rivalry to come to an end tonight.
