Canucks vs Utah HC NHL Predictions & Picks (12/18)
After a rocky start to the 2024-25 NHL campaign, Utah has been turning things around lately.
The newly relocated franchise has played to a solid 7-4 SU record in its last 11 outings with only two of those losses coming in regulation. Utah has piled up four victories in its five most recent games, however, it’s worth noting that each win took place on the road.
Winning at Delta Center has been a different story for a Utah squad that has dropped five consecutive come games. Andre Tourigny’s club has struggled on both sides of the puck during that slump, being outscored 20-12 on aggregate while going an abysmal 8-of-14 on the penalty kill (57.1%).
Unfortunately, for Utah, Canvoucer has proven that it thrives playing on the road. The Canucks are a resounding 10-2 SU in their last 12 road games, averaging 3.8 goals per game with a 27.0% power-play percentage — clearly too much for the competition to handle.
Opposing arenas haven’t posed much of an issue for the Canucks this season.
The Canucks also have the advantage on both ends of the special teams spectrum tonight. Vancouver owns a 23.3% power-play percentage (10th) and an 80.4% success rate on the penalty kill (13th), whereas Utah sits at 21.2% (16th) and 78.5% (21st), respectively.
Utah has already confirmed that Karel Vejmelka will be starting between the pipes this evening. Although the Czech netminder has victories in three of his past four starts, it’s hard to ignore how he’s 0-2-2 with a 3.24 goals-against average and .885 save percentage in his last five home appearances.
Meanwhile, the Canucks will likely roll with Thatcher Demko again as he looks to find his groove after returning from injury. While his first two starts were uneventful, Demko looked like his old self when he stopped 30-of-31 shots in Sunday’s 3-1 win against the Colorado Avalanche.
If Demko can come close to replicating that performance, the Canucks will have a real shot at an upset.
Canucks G Thatcher Demko has looked more like his usual self with each passing game. Will that trend continue?
Even though Utah HC has been building momentum, I’m predicting a Canucks win tonight. Vancouver is excelling on the road this season and I don’t see that changing at Delta Center, where Utah hasn’t been able to buy a win in weeks. Look for the Canucks to take advantage of those woes en route to another victory.
Speaking of which, yous should back the Canucks on the moneyline, too.

Best Canucks vs Utah HC NHL Player Prop (12/18)
It’s hard to go wrong with several Canucks vs. Utah HC player prop bets tonight, including J.T. Miller o0.5 total points (-145 on SportsBetting).
Despite trade rumors becoming louder, Miller is still having a productive campaign. The three-time 30-goal man has registered 19 points in 20 games thus far, which includes a 10-point run in his last 10 outings. The former 2011 first-rounder has only been held pointless three times during that stretch and while one of those instances occurred in his latest outing, he hasn’t gone consecutive games without a point since the start of November.
Even though he’s yet to face Utah in its current form, Miller did have a ton of success vs. the Arizona Coyotes, tallying 17 points in his last 12 games against the franchise.
Based on Utah’s recent play, don’t be shocked if that success continues.
