The 2023-24 NHL season continues on Monday, Nov. 20 with a huge seven-game slate. While there isn’t a shortage of big-time matchups, fewer are bigger than the Atlantic Division clash between the Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning at 7 p.m. ET.
There just doesn’t seem to be any stopping the Bruins, who improved to 4-0-1 in their last five games with Saturday’s 5-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens. Meanwhile, the Lightning have seemingly hit their stride following back-to-back wins over the Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers.
When it comes to the divisional futures odds, the Bruins are Bovada’s clear-cut favorite to win the Atlantic Division at -145 odds. At the same time, the Lightning sit further back at a distant +1600 (No. 4).

Bruins vs Lightning Prediction & Pick (Nov. 20)
For as much success as the Lightning have experienced in recent years, the Bruins have been a constant thorn in their side.
After all, Tampa Bay only has one victory in its last seven meetings with Boston dating back to January 2022. The Bruins outscored the Lightning 22-13 over that stretch with Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak doing most of the damage, racking up seven points apiece.
If the Lightning are going to pull off the upset, they need to find a way to shut the Bruins’ top players down. That’s easier said than done, though, given the home team’s goaltending situation with Andrei Vasilevskiy still on the LTIR.
As a result, all signs point to the Bolts starting Jonas Johansson again. The Swedish netminder has been extremely inconsistent as of late, finishing with a save percentage of .875 or worse in six of his last seven starts.
Meanwhile, the Bruins are getting all-star play from Linus Ullmark between the pipes. The reigning Vezina Trophy winner is 6-1-1 in eight starts thus far, backstopping his way to a .928 SV% and a 2.23 goals-against average.
It’s also worth noting that Ulmmark has given the Lightning a lot of trouble, going 4-1-0 with a .935 SV% and a 1.99 GAA in his last five meetings with the divisional foes.
Amalie Arena also hasn’t been all that welcoming for a Tampa Bay team that’s dropped three of its last four home games. Meanwhile, Boston has only lost once in regulation on the road this season, only allowing more than two regulation goals twice in eight away games.
While I expect a hard-fought tilt between these rivals, I’m taking the Bruins to win in enemy territory. Boston has had Tampa Bay’s number for quite some time now and I don’t see that changing, especially taking the Lightning’s current goaltending situation into account.
I do think the Over on the 6.5-goal total is the best bet, though. After all, three of the Bruins’ last four games saw exactly seven goals scored while the Lightning have surrendered four-plus goals in eight of their last 10 games. I’d be shocked if there weren’t fireworks tonight.
Bruins vs Lightning Prediction: BOS wins
Best Bet: o6.5 Total Goals (-108 on Bovada)
Bruins vs Lightning Best Player Prop
To the surprise of no one, I’m taking the Over on David Pastrnak’s 4.5-shot total as the best Bruins vs. Lightning player prop tonight.
When the Bruins need offense, they turn to Pastrnak, who’s averaging 4.7 shots on goal per game. The Czech sniper has finished with five or more shots eight times this season with four of those instances occurring in his last six games alone.
Having hit the Over on this prop five times in his six previous meetings with the Lightning, Pastrnak is on track for another productive showing tonight.
Bet: David Pastrnak o4.5 Shots on Goal (-105 on Bovada)
