See Picks & Statistics For The GameIt’s a somewhat quiet night around the NHL with only five games lined up for Wednesday, Dec. 13. One matchup that sticks out the most, though, is the massive Eastern Conference collision between the Boston Bruins and New Jersey Devils on TNT at 7:30 p.m. ET.
After a brief losing streak, the Bruins have turned things around, improving to 4-1 SU in their last five games with Saturday’s 5-3 win over the Arizona Coyotes. Meanwhile, the Devils’ winning streak was stopped at three games when they fell 4-1 to the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday.
There’s a good chance that one of these teams will represent the East in the 2023-24 Stanley Cup Final. The Bruins are currently Bovada’s +450 favorite to win the Eastern Conference while the Devils are tied for fifth at +750.
If you’re hoping to get in on the action tonight, this betting preview has you covered. Keep scrolling to read all about my Bruins vs Devils prediction and best bets, along with the latest NHL odds and betting trends.

Bruins vs Devils Prediction & Pick (Dec. 13)
One of the bigger stories surrounding this game is the fact that the Bruins will be without two key players on the road.
Center Pavel Zacha and defenseman Charlie McAvoy have both been ruled out of tonight’s contest. Both players are dealing with upper-body injuries, however, this will be McAvoy’s second consecutive missed game, which has the fanbase concerned.
Unfortunately, the Bruins haven’t been all that consistent on the road in the first place. While their 8-3-2 away record is solid on paper, they haven’t won consecutive road games since the end of October.
In fact, they’re only 4-5 SU in their last nine games as the visitors.
Having said that, the Devils aren’t exactly producing results at Prudential Center. Lindy Ruff’s team has lost four of their last six home games, most recently falling 6-3 against the San Jose Sharks on Dec. 1.
It gets worse for the Devils, though. New Jersey has also lost nine of its last 12 home games against Boston, picking up six of those losses by multi-goal margins. The last time that the Devils beat the Bruins on home ice was a 4-3 victory back on May 4, 2021, losing three straight games since then.
The good news for the visitors is that some of their best players enjoy playing in Newark. Brad Marchand has 13 assists and 17 points in his last 11 trips to Prudential Center while Pastrnak has 13 points in 10 previous visits.
Daily Faceoff points to Vitek Vanecek starting in goal for the Devils tonight. The Czech netminder has struggled to consistently stop the puck in his last six appearances, playing to a 3.83 goals-against average with a .860 save percentage.
While the Bruins’ Jeremy Swayman hasn’t been perfect lately, he’s still played to a 2.72 GAA and .917 SV% in his last five outings. What’s even more encouraging from Boston’s perspective is that the 25-year-old has stopped 51-of-52 shots (.981 SV%) in his two most recent starts.
At the end of the day, I’m taking the Bruins to win tonight — even if they are shorthanded. They’ve had the Devils’ number for quite some time now, winning the last six meetings between these teams. With New Jersey also struggling to win at home this year, Boston’s in a good spot to pull off the upset.
Let’s also go with the Over on the 6-goal total. For starters, the Over is 8-4 in the Bruins’ last 12 games while being 10-2 at Prudential Center this season. Furthermore, the Over has hit in five of the last seven Boston-New Jersey games, averaging 6.4 total goals along the way.
Bruins vs Devils Prediction: BOS wins
Best Bruins vs Devils Bet: o6 Total Goals (-120 on Bovada)
Best Bruins vs Devils NHL Player Prop
If it’s a Bruins vs. Devils prop bet you want, I suggest backing the Over on David Pastrnak’s 4.5-shot total.
While finishing with five-plus shots is tough for most players, Pastrnak has done it 14 times in 26 outings thus far (53.8%). He’s averaging 6.8 shots in his last four games alone, which includes racking up a total of 15 in his last two. That’s without mentioning how he also hit the Over in two of his last three matchups with the Devils.
Considering how the Bruins need their best players to step up in Zacha’s absence, look for Pastrnak to generate offensive like he normally does.
Bet: David Pastrnak o4.5 Shots on Goal (-135 on Bovada)
