Avalanche vs Kraken NHL Frozen Frenzy Predictions & Picks (10/22)
Both of these clubs have some momentum on their side ahead of tonight’s Frozen Frenzy showdown.
The Avalanche are winners of back-to-back outings, most recently notching Sunday’s 4-1 win over the San Jose Sharks which was led by Cale Makar’s three-point effort. Meanwhile, the Kraken are gunning for their fourth consecutive victory after Jordan Eberle scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 overtime victory against the Calgary Flames on Saturday.
Both sides are averaging 3.50 goals per game this season, however, the Avalanche have been much worse in their own zone than the Kraken. Seattle is only surrendering 2.83 goals per outing (T-11th), whereas Colorado is allowing an average of 4.83 — the most in the entire NHL.
Can the Kraken take advantage of the Avalanche’s recent defensive/goaltending issues?
The silver lining for the Avalanche is that goaltender Justus Annunen did look solid in the win against the Sharks, stopping 25-of-26 shots sent his way for his first victory of the campaign. It’s going to take a similar effort to stop a Seattle team that has amassed 15 goals in its last three games.
As for the Kraken, Philipp Grubauer will more than likely draw the start. The German puck-stopper hasn’t had the best start to the 2024-25 season, playing to a .877 save percentage and 3.07 goals-against average in his first three starts.
Additionally, Grubauer has had mixed success against his former team. In 11 career clashes with the Avalanche, the 32-year-old netminder has gone 5-3-1 with a .897 SV%, 2.77 GAA, and one shutout.
Do the Avalanche have what it takes to overcome former G Philipp Grubauer tonight?
Even though the Kraken have had more success to begin the season, I’m taking the Avalanche to win tonight. The Avs are beginning to warm up and should be able to keep that momentum going. After all, they’ve won three consecutive trips to Climate Pledge Arena while outscoring the Kraken 13-3 on aggregate.
Furthermore, Colorado’s power play (38.1%, 2nd) should be able to take advantage of a Seattle penalty kill that ranks among the league’s worst (75.0%, T-20th).
As for the best bet, I’m smashing the Over on the 6.5-goal total. After all, the Over is 4-1 in the Avalanche’s last five games (7.6 goals per) while the Kraken’s last three outings saw an average of 7.7 goals scored.
With both goaltenders playing inconsistently at the moment, I won’t be surprised if we see more offense than expected tonight.

Best Avalanche vs Kraken NHL Player Prop (10/22)
Following a tremendous start to the season, I’m going with Ross Colton o2.5 shots on goal (-122) for my top Avalanche vs. Kraken player prop bet.
Colton is off to his best start to dating, tallying a team-leading six goals in as many games. The former Vermont product has also racked up 22 shots in his first six games, averaging 3.7 SOG per contest. If that isn’t convincing enough, he’s finished with the Over on this prop in each of his last five outings.
Colton now gets to take on the Kraken, who are allowing the 14th-most SOG to wingers this season. As long as he continues to see first-line and power-play minutes, the 28-year-old veteran is a threat to hit the Over again.
