With the start of a new NHL season, we have a clean slate in front of us. We were spoiled last year from all the 50+ goal scorers to an incredible playoff year. We saw some amazing plays and also milestones get broken. Can this year top last year? Let’s find out.
The defending champs Vegas Golden Knights come in at 12-1 favorites to repeat. I feel like they are getting disrespected here big time. They are the defending champs, and they weren’t some Cinderella story. Lots of value here in my opinion.
The Florida Panthers clawed their way to the cup to everyone’s surprise and are coming in at 16-1 this year. Boston, Colorado, and Toronto all had good seasons last year, but all had let down playoff runs. Although Colorado’s disappointing season last year, they are the favorites to win it this year at 8-1. Toronto is 12-1 and Boston is 14-1, which may be generous, but we will find out.
Some teams have made some off season moves. The New Jersey Devils, who are 10-1, went out and got Tyler Toffoli after their good season and the Dallas Stars got Matt Duchene to add to their arsenal. The Stars are 16-1 to win the cup this year.
And then we have teams like the Ottawa Senators who acquired Vladimir Tarasenko and Joonas Korpisalo to give them that push to be a contender. They are sitting at 40-1 odds, but hey, you never know!
A team to never count out with crazy value as well is the Pittsburgh Penguins who are 30-1. They just added this year’s Norris Trophy Winner Erik Karlsson from the San Jose Sharks to boost their defense.
With all that being said, that’s just a few teams. Below is the list of odds for all the teams this year courtesy of BetUS. We should have another great season to look forward to. As well as my favorite to win it all, I have 2 player prop futures that I really love to share, so let’s get into it.

NHL 2024 Futures Predictions and Best Bets
Futures Prediction: New Jersey Devils (+1000)
This team is so young it’s crazy. They are coming off their best year ever finishing with a 52-22-8 record. At the trade deadline, they made a move to get right winger Timo Meier from the San Jose Sharks to make a run but fell short.
Since then, they locked up Meier for 8 years at $8.8 million per year. The Devils made another huge move this offseason in acquiring Tyler Toffoli from the Calgary Flames for Yegor Sharangovich. This deal is actual firsthand theft and I’m here for it.
Toffoli is coming off a career year where he had 34 goals and 39 assists. He played in all 82 games this year as well. He brings another burst of offensive power to this Devils team who arguably now has the best top 6 in the league.
The Devils made huge strides last year as we know. Adding 2 big time players and going into this year off last year’s momentum, they have as good a chance as anyone.
Playing in one of the toughest divisions in the league, they still have missed finishing in 1st place by 1 point. I think this year they take the division and go on a run for the cup.
Player Prop Future: Brayden Point O39.5 goals (-113)
Ok, I have to admit. I love this pick but hate this man! I am a lifelong New York Islanders fan and he had hurt me more than one time. But to give credit where credit is due, the kid is a stud.
In just his 7th season, all with Tampa Bay, Point passed the 50 mark for goals scored last year. He had 51 goals and had a healthy year, playing all 82 games. Along with 51 goals, Point had 44 assists for a total of 95 points. This was his best season since 2018-19, where he had 41 goals and 51 assists.
I really think the books are throwing us a bone here. The value on this line for the number it’s at is fantastic, especially coming off the year he just had.
I don’t expect him to slow down either because this kid is in his prime. We have a 40-goal scorer on our hands from now on and I think he clears this without a problem.
Player Prop Future: Jason Robertson O42.5 goals (-106)
This young kid is something else. He is coming off back-to-back 40 goal seasons in his short 4-year career. Coming off a career year, Robertson put up 46 goals and 63 assists, both career highs.
He had 41 goals the 2022 season, but only played 74 games. Robertson played all 82 games last year which makes you think he would have had 2 more goals in he played all 82 games in the 22′ season.
One of his biggest improvements last year was his +/-. He ended the year at +37, which was 21 points higher than the year before. This means that there were more goals scored by his team while on the ice vs goals allowed by his team while he was on the ice.
I really think this kid is a stud and he’s only going to get better. He’s in a great situation in Dallas with a great supporting cast. Look for him to continue to dominate in contributing on the power play. He had 13 goals and 28 assist on the power play last season. I love this line and it’s right where it should be. Give me JRob over goals all day this year.
