See Picks & Statistics For The GameAfter playing a thrilling overtime game in Atlanta in Week 8, the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers will kick off Week 10 with a Thursday Night Football matchup in Charlotte.
In their first meeting, Atlanta edged Carolina 37-34 in arguably the wildest game of the NFL season.
But after pulling victory out of the jaws of defeat against their NFC South rivals, Atlanta did the opposite in Sunday’s 20-17 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.
Still, to have the same record atop the NFC South as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at this point is something that few would have expected for the Falcons. A stretch of winnable games is ahead, starting with their rematch with the Panthers, who are looking to avoid a third straight loss.

Will Atlanta Have Another Big Day on the Ground?
Entering Week 10, the Falcons are fourth in the NFL in rushing yards per game (162.9) and average 4.8 yards per carry, which is 12th in the league.
Against the Chargers, they hit 200+ rushing yards in a game for the third time this season, recording 201 yards on 35 carries (5.7 yards per carry).
On Thursday night, they will be facing a Carolina defense that is 16th in the NFL in yards allowed per carry (4.5) and 28th in rushing yards allowed per game (139.3).
The Panthers allowed 167 yards on 37 carries (4.5 yards per carry) in the first matchup in Week 8 and allowed 241 yards on 39 carries (6.2 yards per carry) in Sunday’s 42-21 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Bengals RB Joe Mixon went off against the Panthers, rushing for 153 yards and four touchdowns on 22 carries.
Another highly productive performance for Atlanta’s ground game is likely against Carolina, especially with Cordarrelle Patterson now back in action.
After hitting the 100-yard mark twice in his first three games this season, Patterson suffered a knee injury in Week 4 against the Browns and was placed on injured reserve. He returned against the Chargers, rushing for 44 yards on 13 carries and scoring both of the Falcons’ touchdowns.
Between Patterson, Tyler Allgeier, Caleb Huntley, and QB Marcus Mariota, the Panthers will have their hands full. And I don’t see them being up to the task of limiting things enough to avoid big trouble.
Rushing Statistics for the Atlanta Falcons (2022 Season)
- RB Tyler Allgeier: 94 carries, 423 yards (4.5 yards per carry), TD
- RB Cordarrelle Patterson: 71 carries, 384 yards (5.4 yards per carry), 5 TD
- QB Marcus Mariota: 60 carries, 304 yards (5.1 yards per carry), 3 TD
- RB Caleb Huntley: 64 carries, 299 yards (4.7 yards per carry), TD
Atlanta Falcons vs. Carolina Panthers Prediction and Best Bets
Prediction: Falcons to win
With the success that they should have with running the ball, I’m confident in Atlanta being able to complete the season sweep over Carolina.
Best Bets
- Falcons/Panthers over (Best Value: over 43.5 @ -110 at BetOnline, Bovada Sportsbook & BetMGM)
- Falcons team total over (Best Value: over 23.5 @ -104 at BetOnline)
I love both of these total plays, but with how many close games the Falcons have had this season–six of their nine games have been decided by four or fewer points–there’s no way I’m touching the spread here.
Player Prop Picks
- Cordarrelle Patterson total rushing yards over (Best Value: over 53.5 yards @ -115 at BetUS)
Patterson averaged only 3.4 yards per carry in his return to action last week, but that number will go up against the Panthers. Allgeier will get his share of touches, but if Patterson gets at least 12 to 15 carries, which he should, he’ll hit this number.
- Cordarrelle Patterson to score a touchdown anytime (Best Value: +114 at BetUS)
This is unbelievable value given that Patterson has found the end zone in four of the five games he has played in this season. And for what it’s worth, he scored in both games against Carolina last season.
