Eagles vs Commanders NFL Week 16 Predictions & Picks (12/22)

This NFC East clash could have implications for the NFL playoff picture. The Eagles are 12-2 and need to win if they want to catch the Detroit Lions for the NFC’s No. 1 seed, while the Commanders own the conference’s final postseason seed and need another victory to solidify their outlook.

These rivals previously met for the first time this season back in Week 11, ending with the Eagles winning 26-18 against the Commanders at Lincoln Financial Field. With the victory, Philadelphia improved to a commanding 6-1 SU across its last seven meetings with Washington.

Even though this weekend’s matchup is at Northwest Stadium this time around, the outlook is promising for Nick Sirianni’s team.

After all, the Eagles are a dominant 6-1 SU/ATS on the road this season, which includes covering the spread on each of the last five occasions. Additionally, Philadelphia’s plus-10.8 average scoring margin on the road ranks second-best in the NFL.

For comparison, the Commanders are 5-2 SU/ATS with a plus-10.6 margin (5th) at home.

The Commanders and Eagles have done a good job at covering the spread at home and on the road, respectively, this season. 

The Eagles, unsurprisingly, have momentum on their side given that they’re on a 10-game win streak, having not lost since Week 4. Their play on both sides of the ball has been dominant throughout that stretch, scoring 28.3 points per game while limiting the opposition to a 15.1 PPG clip.

The Commanders are coming back back-to-back wins over the Tennessee Titans and New Orleans Saints, however, those teams aren’t exactly world-beaters. The Titans and New Orleans have a combined 8-20 record this season, meaning the Arizona Cardinals are the only team the Commanders have that have a .500 or better record as of Week 16.

With that being said, let’s take the Eagles to win this weekend. They’re legitimate Super Bowl contenders this season, whereas the Commanders are likely pretenders. I fully expect Philadelphia to continue dominating this NFC East rivalry.

The best bet, though? Eagles at -3.5 on the spread. Again, Philadelphia is 6-1 SU with a plus-5.3 average scoring margin in its last seven games against Washington, picking up five of those victories by four or more points. Furthermore, the Eagles are 5-0 ATS in their last five road games this season, whereas the Commanders are 1-4 ATS in their latest five outings overall.

With the Eagles playing like the NFL’s best team, I expect them to cover again.

Best Eagles vs Commanders NFL Week 16 Player Prop Bet

Even though he only rushed for 65 yards against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week, I expect Saquon Barkley to bounce back tonight. That’s why I like him hitting over 94.5 rushing yards (-115 on SportsBetting) for the best Eagles vs. Commanders player prop bet.

Even though Barkley had somewhat of an underwhelming showing in Week 15, he’s still averaging 134.0 rushing yards on 21.6 carries in his last nine games. The Over on this prop went 6-2 throughout that stretch as the ex-Penn State product finished with at least 107 rushing yards on each of those occasions.

If that isn’t convincing enough, the Over is also 5-2 in Barkley’s seven road appearances this season (134.7 rushing yards per game).

Barkley now gets to face the Commanders, who are surrendering 110.4 rushing yards per game to RBs this season — sixth-most in the league. The 27-year-old playmaker took advantage of that lackluster defense when he rushed for 146 yards against Washington in Week 11.

Showing zero signs of slowing down, expecting another dominant performance for Barkley.
