Titans vs Colts Week 5 Preview
The Colts haven’t had much luck when it comes to this AFC South rivalry as of late. They’ve dropped five consecutive games to the Titans, losing by an average margin of 9.4 points.
If Indianapolis is to win, the first thing it must do is slow down Tennessee’s run game. After all, the visitor’s offense runs through RB Derrick Henry.
Unfortunately, the Colts haven’t done that great of a job defending on the ground. Inconsistent play from the defensive line has seen them allow 126.8 rushing yards per game (10th-most) as well as four rushing TDs to running backs — tied for the sixth-most in the NFL.
It’s also worth noting that Henry consistently terrorizes the Colts. The three-time Pro-Bowler has racked up 853 rushing yards and five TDs in his last seven encounters with Indianapolis, finishing with no fewer than 103 yards in all but one of those games.
The Titans also have momentum stemming from a strong defensive performance in last week’s win over the Bengals.
Tennessee held Cincinnati to just 211 total yards, as well as an average of 4.1 yards per play. The Bengals also converted on just 2-of-9 third downs (22.2%) and failed to score on their only trip to the red zone.
Given that the Bengals have more offensive talent than the Colts, it wouldn’t be shocking if the home team struggles to get the ball rolling early on.
Even as solid as Indianapolis QB Anthony Richardson has been, he still has a lot to learn — highlighted by last week’s 44.0% completion rate. He’s also been sacked six times in three starts and now faces the Titans, who are up to 13 sacks this season (T-7th).
If Richardson can’t consistently make his passes early on, the Colts could be playing from behind again this weekend.
Titans vs Colts Prediction — Week 5
In a game that could go either way, I see the Titans standing tall at the final whistle. Not only are the Colts struggling to beat their divisional rival, but the fact that they were down 20-0 at halftime last week raises some serious concerns.
It’ll be a fun back-and-forth affair, but look for the Titans’ run game to give them the edge.
Prediction: Titans 20, Colts 17
Bet: Under 43 Points (-105 on Bovada)
Titans vs Colts Player Prop — Week 5
When it comes to a Titans vs. Colts player prop, it’s an absolute no-brainer to take Derrick Henry to finish with over 75.5 rushing yards.
For starters, the former Alabama product has hit the Over on this prop twice in his last three games, which includes last week’s 122-yard performance. Secondly, he’s finished with 76-plus rushing yards in 10 of his last 12 games against the Colts, averaging 107.0 yards during that span.
With Indy’s run defense looking suspect at best, hitting the Over won’t be an issue for Henry.
Bet: Derrick Henry Over 75.5 Rushing Yards (-115 on Bovada)
