Buccaneers @ Falcons Analysis & Breakdown
Tonight we’ve got a battle of the NFC South, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in Atlanta to take on the Falcons on Thursday Night Football; live from Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
This marks the first of two meetings between these two teams this year, with the Falcons sitting in position to potentially take the lead NFC South.
Both the Falcons and Buccaneers are coming off wins in Week 4, the Buccaneers blew the doors off the Eagles and Younghoe Koo walked it off on a game winning 58 yard field goal for the Falcons.
The Falcons are 2-2 on the year, with their two losses coming to Pittsburgh (#1 Defense in the NFL) and the Kansas City Chiefs. Kirk and company got the job done on Monday Night Football just two weeks ago, but lost a close one to the Chiefs back in Week 4.
The Buccaneers have looked great through the first 4 weeks. Baker Mayfield is playing MVP-esque football and shows no signs of slowing down. He’s averaging 246 yards per game and he’s thrown 8 touchdowns to just 2 interceptions.
Baker’s one the biggest reasons this Buccaneers’ team won a playoff game last year and he’s the biggest reason they’ve started this year 3-1.
With the division lead on the line, and both teams playing on a short week, look for some big plays from maybe some not-so-big names
Tyler Allgeier o35.5 Rushing Yards (-114) via MyBookie
This was supposed to be the year of Bijan Robinson, but once again we’ve all just been disappointed.
Atlanta fired head coach Arthur Smith and brought in former Rams’ defensive co-ordinator, Raheem Morris. Morris looks good through the first 4 weeks this year, his only losses being to the #1 defense in football and the defending champs.
Bijan is seeing a bulk of the snaps and the carries this year but he has yet to produce any big plays or even have a big game. Tyler Allgeier saw no more than 13 snaps through the first 3 weeks, last week that number jumped to 21 snaps to Bijan’s 36,
Allgeier saw 8 carries last week, recorded 60 yards and a 7.5 yards per carry average. This Buccaneers team is allowing opposing teams to average 5 yards per carry and have given up just 1 touchdown threw the air this year.
Robinson averaged 4 yards per carry last week, and averaging 4.41 yards per carry on the year.
Allgeier is averaging 6.1 yards per carry this year and he’s been making the most of every carry that he gets. He’s yet to score a touchdown, but with the increase in snap count we saw last week, I think today he gets us six.

Bucky Irving o43.5 Rushing Yards (-114) via BetOnline – Get a $500 WELCOME BONUS
Another guy that saw his highest snap count of the year, Bucky Irving. Irving looks like he might be ready to take over this Buccaneers backfield and with Tampa playing so well, I think they continue to ride the hot hand.
Last week we saw both Bucky Irving and Rachaad White split carries right down the middle, each guy seeing 10 carries on the day. Irving finished the game having played 32 offensive snaps, compare that to White’s 45 snaps and you can see what I mean.
Irving’s snap count had steadily stayed the same in Weeks 1 to 3 (18.3 snaps per game), but last week we saw it jump to 32. Irving is averaging 5.8 yards per carry on the year, versus White, who’s averaging just 2.8 YPC.
White averages just 3.6 yards per carry in his career and Buccaneers Head Coach, Todd Bowles, has been very about the fact that will not hesitate to move Bucky if that’s who’s got the hot hand.
This week, on a short week and on the road, look for the Buccaneers to work in another heavy dose of Bucky Irving.
