After several painfully long months, professional football is back tonight. The 2024 NFL preseason begins with Thursday’s Pro Football Hall of Fame Game as the Houston Texans go one-on-one with the Chicago Bears. Tonight’s showdown takes place at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, OH with an 8 p.m. kickoff time.
Even though it’s only the preseason, there are still plenty of opportunities for NFL bettors to get in some action tonight.
With that in mind, let’s dive into my Texans vs. Bears predictions and best NFL bets for this year’s Hall of Fame showdown.

Texans vs Bears Predictions & NFL Picks Today (8/1)
As with every NFL preseason, the exhibition begins with the Hall of Fame Game in Canton. This year marks the Texans’ second appearance at the annual event and their first since they faced the New York Giants in 2002. Meanwhile, the Bears have previously competed in five HOF matchups and most recently fell 17-16 to the Baltimore Ravens in 2018.
With that being said, NFL bettors shouldn’t expect to say any big names on the field tonight. Texans head coach Demeco Ryan revealed on Wednesday that his starters won’t be playing tonight while Bears bench boss Matt Eberflus also confirmed that his first-team players are being saved for later in the preseason.
With quarterbacks C.J. Stroud and Caleb Williams not playing, it’s hard not to like Houston’s QB room a bit more than Chicago’s. Davis Mills, Case Keenum, and Tim Boyle might not be the best signal-callers, but they bring more experience to the table than the Bears’ Tyson Bagent, Brett Rypien, and Austin Reed.
With Pro Football Hall of Fame Games known for being low-scoring affairs, sometimes things come down to the team with the better play under center.
Bears rookie QB and 2024 No. 1 draft pick Caleb Williams likely won’t be facing the Texans tonight.
At the end of the day, it’s difficult to predict how these HOF games will go. They’re filled with players who are unlikely to crack the 53-man roster, which can result in sloppy play and mistakes across the board. There’s a reason why the odds and lines are as close as they are — it can really go either way.
With that being said, I’ll take the Bears to win. They’re 5-1 ATS in their last six preseason games and have won seven of their last eight outings on a Thursday. The Texans will likely be the better regular-season team, however, there isn’t much to like about their preseason roster beyond their QB experience.
I also recommend taking the Over on the 30.5-point total. After all, the last six HOF games averaged a combined 31.5 points with four of those matchups finishing with 33 or more points — including the last two. Let’s also not forget that Chicago’s three 2023 preseason games averaged 42.0 points per game.
With players hungry to realize their NFL dreams, take the points tonight.

Best Texans vs Bears NFL Player Prop (8/1)
As mentioned earlier, Pro Football Hall of Fame Game rosters can be quite unpredictable. Unfortunately, that means that sportsbooks aren’t really offering Texans vs. Bears player props at that moment.
Having said that, the situation could change before kickoff, so make sure you’re checking in on sportsbooks like BetOnline for updates.
