We’re officially six weeks into the 2023 NFL season and the San Francisco 49ers are one of two remaining undefeated teams. Each win has only improved their Super Bowl odds, leading football enthusiasts everywhere to wonder if this year’s Niners can go all the way.
After all, the 49ers are one of the most complete teams in the league, filled with elite players on both sides of the ball. Kyle Shanahan has one of the best minds for the game and is more than capable of out-coaching the most seasoned bench bosses.
But regardless of how good the 49ers look, nothing is ever guaranteed in the NFL. Remember how the 2007 New England Patriots were flawless up until Super Bowl XLII?
This article will examine if the 49ers deserve to be called Super Bowl LVIII favorites, as well as whether or not there’s a better betting option out there.

Are the 49ers Legitimate Super Bowl Favorites?
Much like the many San Francisco fanatics, BetOnline’s latest Super Bowl odds highlight the 49ers as the favorites to win. Their +325 odds carry an implied win probability of 23.5%.
With that being said, it’s hard to doubt the oddsmakers based on how well Shanahan’s squad has played in 2023.
On top of their perfect 5-0 start, the 49ers also have the best defense in the league, allowing just 13.6 PPG. They’ve held four of their first opponents to 16 or fewer points, which includes holding the offensively gifted Dallas Cowboys to 10 points in Week 5.
The 49ers also know how to stop their opponents at key teams, only allowing 4.4 yards per play (No. 3) while also sharing the NFL lead when it comes to interceptions (8).
It’s just hard to get much rolling against a defense that boasts elite names like Nick Bosa, Fred Warner, and Talanoa Hufanga (to name a few).
And that’s without even mentioning San Francisco’s offensive dominance, too.
Only the Miami Dolphins (36.2 PPG) are averaging more points than the 49ers (33.4 PPG) this season. There hasn’t been a single game in 2023 where San Francisco hasn’t scored at least 30 points.
The 49ers’ are blessed with playmakers on the ground and through the air. Veteran RB Christian McCaffrey continues to be the best rusher today, cementing himself as an NFL MVP candidate as he leads the league in touches (119), total yards from scrimmage (678), and total TDs (8).
That’s without mentioning pass catchers like Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, and George Kittle. The dynamic trio has already combined for 895 receiving yards and six TDs through five games, highlighting their connection with QB Brock Purdy.
Speaking of Mr. Irrelevant 2022, Purdy still hasn’t lost a game in his NFL career. He’s firing on all cylinders this year, completing 72.1% of passes for 1,271 passing yards and nine TDS without an interception while leading the league with a 123.1 passer rating.
Without Purdy’s near-flawless play, the 49ers likely wouldn’t have the best Super Bowl odds across most sportsbooks.
The Verdict
The 49ers’ elite play across the field proves that they deserve to be considered as Super Bowl LVIII favorites. Few teams can match their talent on either side of the ball, let alone both. Barring any major injuries, San Francisco should be treated as the top threat throughout the 2023 NFL campaign.

Super Bowl Prediction 2023 Before Week 6
Even though I said nothing is guaranteed in the NFL, I can’t bring myself to doubt the 49ers’ Super Bowl odds at this point.
They’re showing no signs of slowing down, blowing out teams left and right. The 49ers’ dominance is further highlighted by an NFL-leading plus-19.8 average scoring margin. Beating opponents by an average of three possessions isn’t something that run-of-the-mill teams do.
Even though teams like the Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills, and Kansas City Chiefs are worthy of being considered contenders as well, none of those teams have beaten opponents up as badly as the 49ers.
With it approaching nearly 30 years since the 49ers’ last Super Bowl victory, this year’s squad has the best shot at ending the franchise’s championship drought.
