See Picks & Statistics For The GameWeek 5 of the 2022 NFL season is just days away from beginning. There are several matchups worth keeping an eye on, including a tilt between two teams heading in opposite directions as the Pittsburgh Steelers visit the Buffalo Bills.
After opening the season with a victory, the Steelers have now lost three games in a row. Their most recent defeat came in a 24-20 loss to the New York Jets that saw quarterback Mitchell Trubisky perform so poorly that he was eventually replaced by rookie backup Kenny Pickett.
Meanwhile, the Bills achieved their third win of the season with a 23-20 win over the Baltimore Ravens. Josh Allen paced the way for his team, completing 19-of-36 passes for 213 yards and a touchdown (with an interception) while also rushing the ball 11 times for 70 yards and another TD.

Steelers vs Bills Picks: Bills -14 (Best Value: -110 at BetOnline) & Under 47.5 Points (Best Value: -115 at BetOnline)
If the Bills end up losing this one, I’d be surprised. The Steelers have been on a downward trend for a few years now, but this team looks absolutely lost without Ben Roethlisberger this season.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday night that the Steelers will move forward with Pickett as their starting quarterback instead of Trubisky. The rookie QB threw for 120 passing yards in relief on Sunday and even rushed for a pair of touchdowns, however, he also threw three interceptions.
Still, just because Pickett might be better than Trubisky doesn’t mean he can lead the Steelers to upset the Bills. After, this is a Buffalo team that’s given up the second-fewest points (14.5) and total yards (234.5) per game this season.
On top of that, the Bills’ 2.3 takeaways per game are tied for the third-most in the NFL. Needless to say, Pickett might not have the best experience against the Leslie Frazier-coordinated defense.
The Bills’ offensive players are likely licking their chops at the prospect of facing the Steelers defense. Not only is Pittsburgh surrendering 383 total yards per game (ninth-worst), but the team also lets its opponents succeed on 7.3 third-down conversations per game — the most in the league.
Furthermore, important players in the Steelers secondary — Minkah Fitzpatrick, Terrell Edmunds and Cameron Sutton — are all banged up. Losing any number of the trio could make this game even uglier for Pittsburgh.
With the Bills already scoring wins over tougher opponents like the Ravens and Los Angeles Rams, it’s tough to see them losing here. Buffalo QB Josh Allen has also won two of his all-time career meetings against the ‘Black and Yellow,’ so history is on his side.
Sure, the Steelers have won five of their last six trips to Orchard Park, but that was a different time. The Bills are now viewed as one of the top Super Bowl contenders in the NFL, while the Steelers are anything but that.
A 14-point spread is significant, but I believe that the Bills are talented enough on both sides of the ball to get the job done. The Steelers offense isn’t good enough to keep pace, while the defense has holes due to injuries.
I’m also willing to back the under on this Steelers vs Bills matchup. Even though I trust Buffalo to put up a solid number of points, Pittsburgh’s offense is too much of a mess to trust, hence why the under makes sense here.
