The 2023 NFL season is nearing the halfway mark with Week 8 scheduled to begin on Thursday. Not only does that mean the standings and individual award races are taking shape, but also that a slate of NFL Week 8 betting opportunities is right around the corner.
Even though the new schedule doesn’t begin for a few more days, it isn’t too early to look at the opening NFL Week 8 odds. So, strap in as we dive into the odds and my early betting predictions for each of this week’s 16 contests.
Week 7 Outright Record: 4-8-0
Week 7 Best Bet Record: 4-7-0
All NFL Week 8 odds are courtesy of BetOnline at 9:28 a.m. ET on Monday, Oct. 23.
Bye Week Teams: None
NFL Week 8 Thursday Night Football Odds
Buccaneers vs Bills Odds
- Record: Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-3) vs. Buffalo Bills (4-3)
- Time: 8:15 p.m. ET
- Location: Highmark Stadium — Orchard Park, NY
- Spread: Buccaneers +7.5 (-110) | Bills -7.5 (-110)
- Total: OVER 42.5 (-110) | UNDER 42.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Buccaneers +280 | Bills -350
The Buccaneers are losers of back-to-back outings, most recently falling 16-13 to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 7. Now, they must deal with an unhappy Bills squad that just suffered a 29-25 upset loss to the rival New England Patriots.
Even though the Bills haven’t been perfect, I see them bouncing back on Thursday. Having said that, I wouldn’t trust them as 7.5-point favorites. Buffalo is a putrid 1-4-1 ATS this season and has failed to cover the spread in five consecutive Week 8 matchups.
The Buccaneers — who are 2-0 ATS on the road — are decent enough to keep things closer than the spread implies. Look for them to give the Bills a couple of scares at Highmark Stadium.
Buccaneers vs Bills Prediction: BUF 24, TB 19
Buccaneers vs Bills Best Bet: TB +7.5 (-110)
NFL Week 8 Early Sunday Odds
Rams vs Cowboys Odds
- Record: LA Rams (3-4) vs. Dallas Cowboys (4-2)
- Time: 1 p.m. ET
- Location: AT&T Stadium (Arlington, TX)
- Spread: Rams +6 (-110) | Cowboys -6 (-110)
- Total: OVER 46 (-110) | UNDER 46 (-110)
- Moneyline: Rams +220 | Cowboys -260
Consecutive wins continue to elude the Rams as they head into the NFL Week 8 schedule following a 24-17 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Meanwhile, the Cowboys aim to get back to their winning ways after a relaxing bye week.
I’m taking the Cowboys in front of a jam-packed AT&T Stadium crowd. Mike McCarthy’s team is 2-0 with a plus-55 scoring margin at home this season. The Rams have been decent on the road, I don’t trust a team that’s struggled against Super Bowl contenders this season.
Nevertheless, I’m taking the Under as the best bet here. The Under is 4-1 in the Rams’ last five games, as well as 6-2 in the Cowboys’ eight previous games as the favorite. With both defenses being among the NFL’s better units, I wouldn’t expect a ton of points in Week 8.
Rams vs Cowboys Prediction: DAL 24, LAR 16
Rams vs Cowboys Best Bet: Under 46 Points (-110)
Vikings vs Packers Odds
- Record: Minnesota Vikings (2-4) vs. Green Bay Packers (2-4)
- Time: 1 p.m. ET
- Location: Lambeau Field (Green Bay, WI)
- Spread: Vikings PK (-105) | Packers PK (-115)
- Total: OVER 43.5 (-110) | UNDER 43.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Vikings TBD | Packers TBD
The Vikings have yet to face the San Francisco 49ers in Monday Night Football at the time of writing. However, we do know that the Packers will head into this NFC North tilt after falling 19-17 to the lowly Denver Broncos.
After losing to the Broncos (one of the NFL’s worst teams), I’m fading the Packers. The Vikings aren’t flawless, but they’ve at least won back-to-back road contests and have shown some signs of life.
I’ll keep things simple by picking the Vikings on the spread and moving on.
Vikings vs Packers Prediction: MIN 20, GB 17
Vikings vs Packers Best Bet: MIN PK (-105)
Falcons vs Titans Odds
- Record: Atlanta Falcons (4-3) vs. Tennessee Titans (2-4)
- Time: 1 p.m. ET
- Location: Nissan Stadium (Nashville, TN)
- Spread: Falcons -1.5 (-108) | Titans +1.5 (-112)
- Total: OVER 37 (-110) | UNDER 37 (-110)
- Moneyline: Falcons TBD | Titans TBD
The Falcons improved to 2-1 in their last three games with Week 7’s 16-13 win over the Buccaneers. At the same time, the Titans hope to avoid a third straight loss after losing 24-16 to the Baltimore Ravens.
The Titans may have home-field advantage, but their offense isn’t playing well enough to back. QB Ryan Tannehill has more interceptions (6) than he does touchdown passes (2) while the backfield has only averaged 104.3 rushing yards over the last four games compared to 122.5 in the first two.
It’s going to be a back-and-forth affair, but the Falcons have been decent in recent weeks and momentum from their last road win should give them a boost to win.
Falcons vs Titans Prediction: ATL 17, TEN 14
Falcons vs Titans Best Bet: ATL -1.5 (-108)
Saints vs Colts Odds
- Record: New Orleans Saints (3-4) vs. Indianapolis Colts (3-4)
- Time: 1 p.m. ET
- Location: Lucas Oil Stadium (Indianapolis, IN)
- Spread: Saints +1.5 (-108) | Colts -1.5 (-112)
- Total: OVER 41.5 (-111) | UNDER 41.5 (-109)
- Moneyline: Saints +105 | Colts -125
The Saints dropped to 1-4 in their last five games with last week’s 31-24 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Meanwhile, the Colts enter NFL Week 8 on a down note, having just lost 39-38 to the Cleveland Browns on a touchdown with 15 seconds remaining.
Neither team has looked great, but I’m going with the Saints. The Colts’ secondary has left a lot to be desired and I don’t see it performing well against pass-catchers like Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed, and Michael Thomas.
Nevertheless, I expect a high-scoring game. The Saints just gave up 31 points last week while the Colts are allowing a 30.3 PPG clip in their last four games. With the Over also being 3-1 at Lucas Oil Stadium in 2023, chances are we’ll see a fair number of points.
Saints vs Colts Prediction: NO 24, IND 21
Saints vs Colts Best Bet: Over 41.5 Points (-111)
Patriots vs Dolphins Odds
- Record: New England Patriots (2-5) vs. Miami Dolphins (5-2)
- Time: 1 p.m. ET
- Location: Hard Rock Stadium (Miami Gardens, FL)
- Spread: Patriots TBD (TBD) | Dolphins TBD (TBD)
- Total: OVER TBD (TBD) | UNDER TBD (TBD)
- Moneyline: Patriots TBD | Dolphins TBD
The Patriots pulled off one of last week’s biggest upsets, pulling out a 29-25 win over the rival Buffalo Bills. Meanwhile, the Dolphins were brought back down to Earth with a 31-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
As impressive as the Patriots’ win was, this is the Dolphins’ game to lose. The Bills have looked ‘off’ for a good chunk of the season, whereas Miami has been as elite as can be at Hard Rock Stadium, going 3-0 with a plus-27.7 average scoring margin this fair.
I just don’t see how the Pats can slow down or keep pace with the Dolphins’ attack if this game turns into a shootout.
Patriots vs Dolphins Prediction: MIA 31, NE 17
Patriots vs Dolphins Best Bet: TBD
Jets vs Giants Odds
- Record: New York Jets (3-3) vs. New York Giants (2-5)
- Time: 1 p.m. ET
- Location: MetLife Stadium (East Rutherford, NJ)
- Spread: Jets -3 (-116) | Giants +3 (-104)
- Total: OVER 36 (-110) | UNDER 36 (-110)
- Moneyline: Jets -165 | Giants +145
The Battle of New York is on the NFL Week 8 schedule. The Jets return to action after defeating the Eagles, 20-14, before last week’s bye while the Giants just ended their four-game losing streak with a 14-7 victory over the Washington Commanders.
Even though they technically have the “home-field advantage,” do we really expect the Giants to win? Nothing about their game has looked impressive this season, whereas the Jets at least have an elite defense to boast.
Considering how each of the Giants’ five losses this season came by at least five points, covering the 3-point spread shouldn’t be a problem for the Jets — especially if the defense continues to click.
Jets vs Giants Prediction: NYJ 20, NYG 14
Jets vs Giants Best Bet: NYJ -3 (-116)
Jaguars vs Steelers Odds
- Record: Jacksonville Jaguars (5-2) vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (4-2)
- Time: 1 p.m. ET
- Location: Acrisure Stadium (Pittsburgh, PA)
- Spread: Jaguars -1.5 (-117) | Steelers +1.5 (-103)
- Total: OVER 41.5 (-107) | UNDER 41.5 (-113)
- Moneyline: Jaguars -128 | Steelers +108
Travis Etienne’s two-touchdown performance helped lead the Jaguars to a 31-24 win over the Saints in Week 7. Now they must face the Steelers, who improved to 4-1 in their last five games with a 24-17 victory against the Rams.
In what could be one of this week’s better games, I’m taking the Jaguars. The Steelers are playing well, but their defense still allows the third-most total yards per game. Jacksonville has enough weapons to take advantage of that when the game is on the line.
Jaguars vs Steelers Prediction: JAX 23, PIT 20
Jaguars vs Steelers Best Bet: JAX -1.5 (-117)
Eagles vs Commanders Odds
- Record: Philadelphia Eagles (6-1) vs. Washington Commanders (3-4)
- Time: 1 p.m. ET
- Location: FedExField (Landover, MD)
- Spread: Eagles TBD (TBD) | Commanders TBD (TBD)
- Total: OVER TBD (TBD) | UNDER TBD (TBD)
- Moneyline: Eagles TBD | Commanders TBD
The Eagles rebounded from their first loss of the season to the tune of a 31-17 win over the Miami Dolphins. Standing in their way of another victory is the Commanders, who just fell 14-7 to the Giants.
This is another matchup where you won’t want to overthink things. The Commanders aren’t even close to being on the Eagles’ level and already lost to their NFC East rivals back in Week 4.
Throw in the fact that Washington allowed 40 points in its last home game and I don’t see this one being close.
Eagles vs Commanders Prediction: PHI 28, WSH 16
Eagles vs Commanders Best Bet: TBD
Texans vs Panthers Odds
- Record: Houston Texans (3-3) vs. Carolina Panthers (0-6)
- Time: 1 p.m. ET
- Location: Bank of America Stadium (Charlotte, NC)
- Spread: Texans -3 (-118) | Panthers +3 (-102)
- Total: OVER 42.5 (-110) | UNDER 42.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Texans -170 | Panthers +150
The Texans are back from their bye week, looking to pick up from where they left off — a 3-1 record in their last four games. Their NFL Week 8 opponent is none other than the Panthers, who’ve lost six straight games to begin the 2023 campaign.
Taking the Texans is a no-brainer this week. Not only are the Panthers surrendering the most points in the league, but they also boast the second-worst averaging scoring margin (minus-12.3), proving that they can’t keep things close.
With Carolina’s average loss coming by two possessions, covering the 3-point spread should be a breeze for Carolina.
Texans vs Panthers Prediction: HOU 27, CAR 17
Texans vs Panthers Best Bet: HOU -3 (-118)

NFL Week 8 Odds — Late Sunday Games
Browns vs Seahawks Odds
- Record: Cleveland Browns (4-2) vs. Seattle Seahawks (4-2)
- Time: 4:05 p.m. ET
- Location: Lumen Field (Seattle, WA)
- Spread: Browns +2.5 (+100) | Seahawks -2.5 (-120)
- Total: OVER 40.5 (-102) | UNDER 40.5 (-118)
- Moneyline: Browns +130 | Seahawks -150
The Browns have momentum on their side after emerging from a nail-biter against the Colts with a 39-38 victory. Meanwhile, the Seahawks continued their impressive run with last week’s 20-10 win against the Arizona Cardinals.
I’m going to take the home team in this NFL Week 8 matchup. The Seahawks have been playing really well this season, going 4-1 in their last five games. They’re also the healthier team, whereas there’s no telling if Browns starting QB Deshaun Watson will be able to play on Sunday.
Regardless of the victor, I expect a low-scoring tilt. On top of the Under being a combined 7-4-1 for these teams this season, three of the Browns’ last four games saw fewer than 40.5 points scored while the Seahawks’ latest three outings averaged a total of 29.0 PPG.
Browns vs Seahawks Prediction: SEA 21, CLE 17
Browns vs Seahawks Best Bet: Under 40.5 Points (-118)
Chiefs vs Broncos Odds
- Record: Kansas City Chiefs (6-1) vs. Denver Broncos (2-5)
- Time: 4:25 p.m. ET
- Location: Empower Field at Mile High (Denver, CO)
- Spread: Chiefs -8 (-109) | Broncos +8 (-111)
- Total: OVER 45.5 (-110) | UNDER 45.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Chiefs -365 | Broncos +295
A 31-17 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers helped push the Chiefs’ winning streak to six games last week. Meanwhile, the Broncos are coming off a rare 19-17 win over the Packers that saw kicker Wil Lutz make four field goals.
The Broncos hardly threatened the Chiefs in a 19-8 loss two weeks ago and I don’t see this week’s result being any different. After all, Kansas City has won 16 straight matchups against Denver with a plus-11.3 average scoring margin for a reason.
Don’t expect an upset in Denver.
Chiefs vs Broncos Prediction: KC 26, DEN 13
Chiefs vs Broncos Best Bet: KC -8 (-109)
Ravens vs Cardinals Odds
- Record: Baltimore Ravens (5-2) vs. Arizona Cardinals (1-6)
- Time: 4:25 p.m. ET
- Location: State Farm Stadium (Glendale, AZ)
- Spread: Ravens -8 (-110) | Cardinals +8 (-110)
- Total: OVER 44 (-105) | UNDER 44 (-115)
- Moneyline: Ravens -380 | Cardinals +310
The Ravens silenced the Lions’ thundering offense last week to the tune of a 38-6 final score. The Cardinals, meanwhile, head into the NFL Week 8 schedule on a four-game losing skid following a 20-10 loss to the Seahawks.
Again, I wouldn’t anticipate an upset here. The Cardinals have lost each of their last four games by at least 10 points and now face the Ravens, who’ve outscored their last quartet of opponents 100-42 on aggregate.
Do I really need to say more?
Ravens vs Cardinals Prediction: BAL 26, ARI 10
Ravens vs Cardinals Best Bet: BAL -8 (-110)
Bengals vs 49ers Odds
- Record: Cincinnati Bengals (3-3) vs. San Francisco 49ers (5-1)
- Time: 4:25 p.m. ET
- Location: Levi’s Stadium (Santa Clara, CA)
- Spread: Bengals TBD (TBD) | 49ers TBD (TBD)
- Total: OVER TBD (TBD) | UNDER TBD (TBD)
- Moneyline: Bengals TBD | 49ers TBD
The Bengals seek their third straight win this week after resting up during last week’s bye. It’s too early to tell if the 49ers will have any momentum given that they’ve yet to face the Vikings in Week 7 at the time of writing.
I see no reason to doubt the 49ers in Week 8. They’re Super Bowl contenders with a 3-0 record and a plus-23.0 average scoring margin at Levi’s Stadium. Meanwhile, the Bengals haven’t beaten a team on the road this season outside of the lowly Cardinals.
If Joe Burrow regresses to this year’s early struggles, it’s going to be hard for the road team to stay in this game.
Bengals vs 49ers Prediction: SF 31, CIN 20
Bengals vs 49ers Best Bet: TBD
NFL Week 8 Sunday Night Football Odds
Bears vs Chargers Odds
- Record: Chicago Bears (2-5) vs. Los Angeles Chargers (2-4)
- Time: 8:20 p.m. ET
- Location: SoFi Stadium (Inglewood, CA)
- Spread: Bears +8.5 (-110) | Chargers -8.5 (-110)
- Total: OVER 46.5 (-110) | UNDER 46.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Bears +320 | Chargers -400
Rookie QB Tyson Bagent led the Bears to a 30-12 win over the Las Vegas Raiders in his first-ever NFL start in Week 7. At the same time, the Chargers are out for revenge after picking up a 31-17 loss to the Chiefs.
I could see this game going either way. On one hand, the Bears have a new energy to them after upsetting the Raiders last week. On the other hand, the Chargers are better than their record shows and a weaker team like Chicago could be what Los Angeles needs to get back on track.
Although I have the home team edging things out in the end, I’m looking at the Under for the best bet. After all, the Chargers have been held to exactly 17 points in back-to-back outings while the Bears have scored 17 or fewer points in two of three road games.
With Justin Fields potentially sidelined again, I don’t expect a shootout.
Bears vs Chargers Prediction: LAC 24, CHI 21
Bears vs Chargers Best Bet: Under 46.5 Points (-110)
NFL Week 8 Monday Night Football Odds
Raiders vs Lions Odds
- Record: Las Vegas Raiders (3-4) vs. Detroit Lions (5-2)
- Time: 8:15 p.m. ET
- Location: Ford Field (Detroit, MI)
- Spread: Raiders +7.5 (-106) | Lions -7.5 (-114)
- Total: OVER 45 (-110) | UNDER 45 (-110)
- Moneyline: Raiders +310 | Lions -380
The Raiders are back in the loss column following Week 7’s 30-12 loss to the Bears. The Lions also hope to rebound this week after coming out on the wrong side of a 38-6 final score in their meeting with the Ravens.
Considering how the Raiders have lost three straight road games by an average of 17.7 points, it’s easy to like the Lions’ odds of nailing a big win here. With Las Vegas having a bottom-10 road defense and Detroit boasting the sixth-best offense at home, the results write themselves.
Raiders vs Lions Prediction: DET 34, LV 21
Raiders vs Lions Best Bet: DET -7.5 (-114)
