After several months of waiting, football fans’ prayers have been answered. Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season is finally here and the action begins on Thursday, Sept. 8. It’s just the first step on the road to Super Bowl LVII and only time will tell which teams start things off right.
With 16 matchups to look forward to, keeping track of everything is easier said than done. That’s why Betting News has gathered the top NFL Week 1 odds from BetOnline Sportsbook while also giving out predictions for each game.
NFL Week 1 Predictions & Picks — Thursday, Sept. 8
Odds are via BetOnline Sportsbook as of Monday, Sept. 5.
Bills vs Rams Odds
- Buffalo Bills (0-0, 0-0 Away) vs. Los Angeles Rams (0-0, 0-0 Home)
- Date: Thursday, Sept. 8 @ 8:20 p.m. ET
- Spread: Buffalo Bills -2.5 (-106), Los Angeles Rams +2.5 (-114)
- Total: OVER 52.5 (-110), UNDER 52.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Buffalo Bills -134, Los Angeles Rams +114
There really isn’t much of a bigger way that NFL Week 1 could start than with a clash between the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams. After all, the Bills are consistently one of the top offensive teams while the Rams are the reigning Super Bowl champions.
The Rams have home-field advantage on their side, but they’re also pretty banged up — especially quarterback Matthew Stafford. Nevertheless, I expect this game to end up in a shootout with the Bills emerging as the victors after all the offseason improvements they made.
Prediction: Bills 32, Rams 27
Best Bet: Bills -2.5 (-106)
NFL Week 1 Predictions & Picks — Sunday, Sept. 11
Patriots vs Dolphins Odds
- New England Patriots (0-0, 0-0 Away) vs. Miami Dolphins (0-0, 0-0 Home)
- Date: Sunday, Sept. 11 @ 1 p.m. ET
- Spread: New England Patriots +2.5 (+104), Miami Dolphins -2.5 (-128)
- Total: OVER 46.5 (-105), UNDER 46.5 (-115)
- Moneyline: New England Patriots +132, Miami Dolphins -156
There’s nothing like a battle between two rivals. That’s what fans are going to get when the AFC East’s New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins collide on Sunday. It’ll be interesting to see how things go after the Dolphins swept last season’s two-game series.
While the Patriots are solid, the Dolphins have improved their offense his season with the likes of Tyreek Hill and Terron Armstead. It might not be the highest-scoring game of the week, however, it should be an entertaining one that sees Miami win in the end.
Prediction: Dolphins 20, Patriots 14
Best Bet: Dolphins -2.5 (-128)
Ravens vs Jets Odds
- Baltimore Ravens (0-0, 0-0 Away) vs. New York Jets (0-0, 0-0 Home)
- Date: Sunday, Sept. 11 @ 1 p.m. ET
- Spread: Baltimore Ravens -6.5 (-114), New York Jets +6.5 (-106)
- Total: OVER 46.5 (-105), UNDER 46.5 (-115)
- Moneyline: Baltimore Ravens -290, New York Jets +235
The NFL Week 1 Baltimore Ravens vs. New York Jets matchup because it marks Jets quarterback Joe Flacco’s chance for revenge against his former team. Having said that, the Ravens are the clear-cut better team here and shouldn’t have too many issues against the Jets.
At the end of the day, the Jets have a lot to prove that they aren’t perennial losers anymore. The Ravens will provide a decent test, however, I don’t think New York is ready just yet.
Prediction: Ravens 24, Jets 13
Best Bet: Under 46.5 Points (-115)
Steelers vs Bengals Odds
- Pittsburgh Steelers (0-0, 0-0 Away) vs. Cincinnati Bengals (0-0, 0-0 Home)
- Date: Sunday, Sept. 11 @ 1 p.m. ET
- Spread: Pittsburgh Steelers +6.5 (-115), Cincinnati Bengals -6.5 (-105)
- Total: OVER 44.5 (-110), UNDER 44.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Pittsburgh Steelers +220, Cincinnati Bengals -270
The Cincinnati Bengals are looking to further prove that they can be Super Bowl contenders after last year’s run. Meanwhile, the Pittsburgh Steelers look to begin a new era in Week 1 now that Ben Roethlisberger has retired.
The Bengals are the better team here with higher offensive potential. I simply don’t think that the Steelers can keep up with their pace this time around, ultimately resulting in a victory for Cincinnati at the end of the day. It’ll be a close one, but difference-makers like Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins should seal the deal.
Prediction: Bengals 27, Steelers 16
Best Bet: Over 44.5 Points (-110)
Colts vs Texans Odds
- Indianapolis Colts (0-0, 0-0 Away) vs. Houston Texans (0-0, 0-0 Home)
- Date: Sunday, Sept. 11 @ 1 p.m. ET
- Spread: Indianapolis Colts -8.5 (-105), Houston Texans +8.5 (-115)
- Total: OVER 45.5 (-115), UNDER 45.5 (-105)
- Moneyline: Indianapolis Colts -360, Houston Texans +290
The Houston Texans might be the home team here, but that doesn’t necessarily give them an advantage against the Indianapolis Colts. In fact, the Colts have won nine of their last 11 games against the Texans since 2017, including each of the last four by a combined score of 115-43.
Considering how the Texans are projected to be one of the worst teams in the NFL again, I don't like their chances of winning on Sunday. The Colts are the far better team and with their offseason improvements, they shouldn’t have an issue walking over Houston.
Prediction: Colts 34, Texans 20
Best Bet: Colts -8.5 (-105)
Jaguars vs Commanders Odds
- Jacksonville Jaguars (0-0, 0-0 Away) vs. Washington Commanders (0-0, 0-0 Home)
- Date: Sunday, Sept. 11 @ 1 p.m. ET
- Spread: Jacksonville Jaguars +3.5 (-120), Washington Commanders -3.5 (-102)
- Total: OVER 43.5 (-110), UNDER 43.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Jacksonville Jaguars +138, Washington Commanders -164
Both the Jacksonville Jaguars and Washington Commanders are fighting to prove themselves after less-than-ideal 2021 seasons. With Urban Meyer in the rearview mirror, the Jaguars hope that Doug Pederson’s presence can help turn things around while getting QB Trevor Lawrence to the next level.
Nonetheless, it’s going to be easier said than done. The Commanders have a solid defense and the offense could improve now that Carson Wentz is under center. This game could surprise some people, but I’m expecting the Commanders to get it done in the end.
Prediction: Commanders 21, Jaguars 17
Best Bet: Under 43.5 Points (-110)
49ers vs Bears Odds
- San Francisco 49ers (0-0, 0-0 Away) vs. Chicago Bears (0-0, 0-0 Home)
- Date: Sunday, Sept. 11 @ 1 p.m. ET
- Spread: San Francisco 49ers -6.5 (-120), Chicago Bears +6.5 (-102)
- Total: OVER 41.5 (-110), UNDER 41.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: San Francisco 49ers -310, Chicago Bears +250
This is certainly one of the more lopsided battles of NFL Week 1. The San Francisco 49ers are expected to be Super Bowl contenders while the Chicago Bears are projected to be anything but that. With Chicago making minimal offseason moves, things aren't looking good for the Windy City’s team.
The 49ers outclass the Bears in just about every aspect of their respective rosters. I think that San Francisco will put things out of reach early on and not look back.
Prediction: 49ers 28, Bears 10
Best Bet: 49ers -6.5 (-120)
Eagles vs Lions Odds
- Philadelphia Eagles (0-0, 0-0 Away) vs. Detroit Lions (0-0, 0-0 Home)
- Date: Sunday, Sept. 11 @ 1 p.m. ET
- Spread: Philadelphia Eagles -3.5 (-114), Detroit Lions +3.5 (-106)
- Total: OVER 48.5 (-110), UNDER 48.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Philadelphia Eagles -198, Detroit Lions +166
The Philadelphia Eagles had quite the eventful offseason, between their solid 2022 NFL Draft showing and offseason additions, including trading for wideout A.J. Brown. They’re in much better shape than they were last year, but so are the Detroit Lions, who’ve had another year to grow under head coach Dan Campbell.
While I expect the Eagles’ offseason moves to pay off, I think the Lions have the potential to surprise them. It won’t be pretty, but I’m backing the Lions to pull off a hard-fought upset.
Prediction: Lions 24, Eagles 23
Best Bet: Lions ML (+166)
Saints vs Falcons Odds
- New Orleans Saints (0-0, 0-0 Away) vs. Atlanta Falcons (0-0, 0-0 Home)
- Date: Sunday, Sept. 11 @ 1 p.m. ET
- Spread: New Orleans Saints -5.5 (-110), Atlanta Falcons +5.5 (-110)
- Total: OVER 42.5 (-110), UNDER 42.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: New Orleans Saints -225, Atlanta Falcons +190
It isn’t a shock to see the New Orleans Saints as NFL Week 1 favorites over the Atlanta Falcons. The Saints are 7-2 straight up in their last nine games against their NFC South rivals. That’s in addition to the fact that New Orleans has won each of its last four trips to Atlanta.
With the Falcons roster looking worse this year following Matt Ryan’s departure, it’s tough to see them turning their luck around against the Saints. Yes, New Orleans also lost pieces in the offseason, but they have a healthy Jameis Winston and Michael Thomas back in an improved offense, along with a potentially dangerous defense.
The Saints should win this one decisively.
Prediction: Saints 27, Falcons 13
Best Bet: Saints -5.5 (-110)
Browns vs Panthers Odds
- Cleveland Browns (0-0, 0-0 Away) vs. Carolina Panthers (0-0, 0-0 Home)
- Date: Sunday, Sept. 11 @ 1 p.m. ET
- Spread: Cleveland Browns +2.5 (-108), Carolina Panthers -2.5 (-112)
- Total: OVER 41.5 (-110), UNDER 41.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Cleveland Browns +118, Carolina Panthers -138
Baker Mayfield gets a chance at revenge against the team that cast him aside when his Carolina Panthers host the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. While the Panthers have been bottom-feeders lately, Mayfield returning to form could help them rebound, especially with players like Christian McCaffrey, DJ Moore and Robbie Anderson around him.
Even if the Browns have the potential to be AFC threats, they’re missing a big piece right now: starting QB Deshaun Watson. Given that Jacoby Brissett is a major downgrade under center and that Mayfield is playing with a chip on his shoulder, I like the Panthers’ odds of getting a victory here.
Prediction: Panthers 27, Browns 24
Best Bet: Panthers ML (-138)
Giants vs Titans Odds
- New York Giants (0-0, 0-0 Away) vs. Tennessee Titans (0-0, 0-0 Home)
- Date: Sunday, Sept. 11 @ 4:25 p.m. ET
- Spread: New York Giants +5.5 (-110), Tennessee Titans -5.5 (-110)
- Total: OVER 43.5 (-114), UNDER 43.5 (-106)
- Moneyline: New York Giants +198, Tennessee Titans -240
The New York Giants are yet another team entering a new era with head coach Brian Daboll behind the bench. One thing that they must prove is that they can stop the ball against a run-heavy Tennessee Titans team, which could be easier said than done considering that the Giants surrendered 129 rushing yards per game (No. 25) in 2021.
The Titans’ offense took a step back this offseason, but they brought in Robert Woods and rookie wideout Treylon Burks to offset the loss of A.J. Brown. Even if the team isn’t as good as they were last year, they’re still good enough to beat the Giants.
Prediction: Titans 28, Giants 18
Best Bet: Titans -5.5 (-110)
Raiders vs Chargers Odds
- Las Vegas Raiders (0-0, 0-0 Away) vs. Los Angeles Chargers (0-0, 0-0 Home)
- Date: Sunday, Sept. 11 @ 4:25 p.m. ET
- Spread: Las Vegas Raiders +3.5 (-118), Los Angeles Chargers -3.5 (-104)
- Total: OVER 52.5 (-106), UNDER 52.5 (-114)
- Moneyline: Las Vegas Raiders +154, Los Angeles Chargers -184
The AFC West should be a bloodbath in the 2022 NFL season and this matchup should do a good job of demonstrating that. Both the Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Chargers have incredible offensive potential, but it remains to be seen how this will play out.
At the end of the day, I’m siding with the Chargers here, but it could go either way. Keeping that in mind, I expect the offenses to be on full display, resulting in the total hitting the over.
Prediction: Chargers 30, Raiders 27
Best Bet: Over 52.5 Points (-106)
Packers vs Vikings Odds
- Green Bay Packers (0-0, 0-0 Away) vs. Minnesota Vikings (0-0, 0-0 Home)
- Date: Sunday, Sept. 11 @ 4:25 p.m. ET
- Spread: Green Bay Packers -1.5 (-115), Minnesota Vikings +1.5 (-105)
- Total: OVER 48.5 (-110), UNDER 48.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Green Bay Packers -120, Minnesota Vikings +102
With how good the Green Bay Packers have been over the last decade, you’d think that a win against the Minnesota Vikings would be no problem. Well, it turns out that winning in Minnesota has been something that’s been tough for Green Bay to do in recent years.
The Packers are 2-4 in their last six trips to U.S. Bank Stadium. Having said that, the games have been close, with the Vikings outscoring their rivals 142-138 over that six game-span. In other words, I’m expecting another close game where the total should be surpassed.
Prediction: Packers 26, Vikings 24
Best Bet: Over 48.5 Points (-110)
Chiefs vs Cardinals Odds
- Kansas City Chiefs (0-0, 0-0 Away) vs. Arizona Cardinals (0-0, 0-0 Home)
- Date: Sunday, Sept. 11 @ 4:25 p.m. ET
- Spread: Kansas City Chiefs -3.5 (-115), Arizona Cardinals +3.5 (-105)
- Total: OVER 53.5 (-110), UNDER 53.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Kansas City Chiefs -120, Arizona Cardinals +102
Here’s another game with high-scoring potential as the Kansas City Chiefs travel to face the Arizona Cardinals. Both Patrick Mahomes and Kyler Murray are without last year’s top receivers, as the Chiefs traded away Tyreek Hill while the Cardinals’ DeAndre Hopkins is serving a six-game suspension.
Even with Mahomes playing with a new crop of receivers, the Chiefs are the better squad here. I don’t think that the Cardinals can keep up with the Chiefs after the former’s offseason departures, plus Hopkins’ absence might set the whole Arizona offense back a bit.
Prediction: Chiefs 34, Cardinals 20
Best Bet: Chiefs ML (-120)
Buccaneers vs Cowboys Odds
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-0, 0-0 Away) vs. Dallas Cowboys (0-0, 0-0 Home)
- Date: Sunday, Sept. 11 @ 8:20 p.m. ET
- Spread: Tampa Bay Buccaneers -1.5 (-114), Dallas Cowboys +1.5 (-106)
- Total: OVER 50.5 (-110), UNDER 50.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Tampa Bay Buccaneers -124, Dallas Cowboys +126
This is the second meeting in as many years between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Dallas Cowboys. It was a game that went right down to the wire, resulting in a 31-29 victory for the Buccaneers.
Although this matchup could go either way, it’s important to point out that Amari Cooper — who had 139 receiving yards and two touchdowns against the Bucs in 2021 — is no longer on the Cowboys. Dallas will also be without its No. 2 WR this year, Michael Gallup, who’s currently injured.
With the Cowboys being as banged up as they are, I like Tampa Bay’s odds of winning this on the road.
Prediction: Buccaneers 28, Cowboys 20
Best Bet: Buccaneers ML (-124)
NFL Week 1 Predictions & Picks — Monday, Sept. 12
Broncos vs Seahawks Odds
- Denver Broncos (0-0, 0-0 Away) vs. Seattle Seahawks (0-0, 0-0 Home)
- Date: Monday, Sept. 12 @ 8:15 p.m. ET
- Spread: Denver Broncos -6.5 (-106), Seattle Seahawks +6.5 (-114)
- Total: OVER 42.5 (-115), UNDER 42.5 (-105)
- Moneyline: Denver Broncos -255, Seattle Seahawks +210
Another game, another QB facing his former team. This time, Russell Wilson hopes to lead his Denver Broncos to victory when he faces the team that he once won a Super Bowl with, the Seattle Seahawks.
Wilson likely wants a big win in his return, which shouldn’t be too tough to achieve. The Seahawks weren’t great last year and they’re a much worse team now that Geno Smith is under center. I’d honestly be shocked if the Broncos don’t begin the new schedule with an NFL Week 1 victory.
Prediction: Broncos 30, Seahawks 16
Best Bet: Broncos -6.5 (-106)
