The Las Vegas Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars opened up the 2022 NFL preseason last Thursday with the annual Pro Football Hall of Fame Game. While that was fun, the real excitement officially begins in a few days with Week 1 of the preseason.
Though preseason games don’t have a ton of meaning, there are still plenty of betting opportunities to be had.
Fortunately, Betting News has gathered all of the latest NFL exhibition odds from BetOnline Sportsbook so that you can view every matchup, along with a prediction for each Week 1 preseason game.
NFL Preseason Week 1 Odds — Thursday, Aug. 11
New York Giants vs. New England Patriots Betting Odds
- Date: Thursday, Aug. 11 @ 7 p.m. ET
- Spread: New York Giants -2 (-110), New England Patriots +2 (-110)
- Total: OVER 34.5 (-114), UNDER 34.5 (-106)
- Moneyline: New York Giants -130, New England Patriots +110
Odds are via BetOnline Sportsbook.
If this was a regular-season matchup, the New England Patriots would likely be favored over the New York Giants. However, since it’s Week 1 of the NFL preseason, the Giants enter as the 2-point favorites.
Though the Patriots have the better roster from top to bottom, the Giants have more to prove here. Giants head coach Brian Daboll wants to start his tenure off on the right foot, as do several of the team’s promising rookies, such as Kayvon Thibodeaux and Evan Neal.
With nothing meaningful on the line besides pride, I could see the Giants walking out with the win.
Prediction: Giants 19, Patriots 15
Best Bet: Giants -2 (-110)
Tennessee Titans vs. Baltimore Ravens Betting Odds
- Date: Thursday, Aug. 11 @ 7:30 p.m. ET
- Spread: Tennessee Titans +3.5 (-110), Baltimore Ravens -3.5 (-110)
- Total: OVER 31.5 (-110), UNDER 31.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Tennessee Titans +145, Baltimore Ravens -170
The Tennessee Titans will travel to face the Baltimore Ravens in a second matchup on Thursday.
As great as the Titans can be, they rely heavily on their starters to get things done. Key players like Ryan Tannehill, Robert Woods and Derrick Henry likely won’t be seeing much action (if any), leaving few playmakers for Tennessee to work with.
On the other hand, the Ravens just had one of the better showings at the 2022 NFL Draft and now their cupboards are stacked. Baltimore appears to be one of the deeper AFC teams and it wouldn’t be a shock if the team’s second- and third-stringers are too much for the Titans to handle.
Prediction: Ravens 21, Titans 10
Best Bet: Under 31.5 (-110)
NFL Preseason Week 1 Odds — Friday, Aug. 12
Atlanta Falcons vs. Detroit Lions Betting Odds
- Date: Friday, Aug. 12 @ 6 p.m. ET
- Spread: Atlanta Falcons -1 (-110), Detroit Lions +1 (-110)
- Total: OVER 35.5 (-110), UNDER 35.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Atlanta Falcons -120, Detroit Lions +100
The Atlanta Falcons embraced are build this offseason and growing pains could be around the corner. The Falcons’ roster is largely devoid of playmakers when it comes to their starters, making it tough to imagine the backup players stealing the show in the Motor City.
Meanwhile, the Detroit Lions are ready to fight for coach Dan Campbell again. The Lions are one of the hungriest groups this NFL preseason and are looking to prove that they can take things to the next level now that second overall pick Aidan Hutchinson is patrolling the defense.
Even though the Falcons are favored here, the odds are close enough that I’m willing to take the Lions pulling off the “upset.”
Prediction: Lions 19, Falcons 14
Best Bet: Lions ML (+100)
Cleveland Browns vs. Jacksonville Jaguars Betting Odds
- Date: Friday, Aug. 12 @ 7 p.m. ET
- Spread: Cleveland Browns +1.5 (-105), Jacksonville Jaguars -1.5 (-115)
- Total: OVER 33 (-110), UNDER 33 (-110)
- Moneyline: Cleveland Browns +105, Jacksonville Jaguars -125
The Cleveland Browns have been talked about for all the wrong reasons heading into the NFL preseason. Nevertheless, this is an improved roster compared to last year. Besides, the Browns love to run the ball and with their opponent’s lackluster run defense, it could be quite the mismatch.
Fans got a good look at the Jacksonville Jaguars last week and it was… not good. The Raiders held the Jaguars off the scoresheet for the entire first half before the Jags scored just 11 points in the final two quarters. They’ll likely roll with more starters this week, however, there isn’t much of a reason to feel optimistic.
Don’t overthink it: back the Browns.
Prediction: Browns 23, Jaguars 15
Best Bet: Browns ML (+105)
New York Jets vs. Philadelphia Eagles Betting Odds
- Date: Friday, Aug. 12 @ 7:30 p.m. ET
- Spread: New York Jets -1 (-110), Philadelphia Eagles +1 (-110)
- Total: OVER 35.5 (-110), UNDER 35.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: New York Jets -115, Philadelphia Eagles -105
The New York Jets have been bad for quite some time now, but they hope to turn things around beginning with Week 1 of the NFL preseason. A lot of experts thought that the Jets had one of the best showings at the 2022 NFL Draft, meaning Friday’s game is a great opportunity for the new crop of rookies to prove their worth.
Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Eagles also made some impressive offseason additions, such as trading for A.J. Brown. Even if most of their starters don’t play, the Eagles were the better team last year and have the deeper roster. Still, the Jets should keep it close.
Prediction: Eagles 20, Jets 17
Best Bet: Eagles ML (-105)
Arizona Cardinals vs. Cincinnati Bengals Betting Odds
- Date: Friday, Aug. 12 @ 7:30 p.m. ET
- Spread: Arizona Cardinals +2 (-105), Cincinnati Bengals -2 (-115)
- Total: OVER 33.5 (-110), UNDER 33.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Arizona Cardinals +110, Cincinnati Bengals -135
The Arizona Cardinals enter the NFL preseason looking to build off of last year’s 11-6 record. The team lost a few key players this offseason, such as Christian Kirk and Chandler Jones, so adjustments must be made. Time will tell who ends up stepping up.
On the other hand, the Cincinnati Bengals are hoping that they can pick up from where they left off following their Super Bowl run. Management worked hard this offseason to improve Cincinnati’s defense, so expect to see rookies like Daxton Hill and Cam Taylor-Britt to try making a name for themselves.
Prediction: Bengals 21, Cardinals 15
Best Bet: Over 33.5 (-110)
Green Bay Packers vs. San Francisco 49ers Betting Odds
- Date: Friday, Aug. 12 @ 8:30 p.m. ET
- Spread: Green Bay Packers +1 (-110), San Francisco 49ers -1 (-110)
- Total: OVER 32.5 (-110), UNDER 32.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Green Bay Packers +100, San Francisco 49ers -120
The Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers are projected to be two of the top NFC teams, once again, this season. While both teams are loaded with stars, chances are few of them will be seen in Week 1 of the NFL preseason.
Having said that, out of all the players potentially involved, 49ers QB Trey Lance has the most to prove. Despite being his team’s starting signal-caller, he hasn’t looked good at training camp. A strong performance against the Packers could help repair his reputation.
Prediction: 49ers 17, Packers 31
Best Bet: Under 32.5 (-110)
NFL Preseason Week 1 Odds — Saturday, Aug. 13
Kansas City Chiefs vs. Chicago Bears Betting Odds
- Date: Saturday, Aug. 13 @ 1 p.m. ET
- Spread: Kansas City Chiefs +3.5 (-115), Chicago Bears -3.5 (-105)
- Total: OVER 35 (-110), UNDER 35 (-110)
- Moneyline: Kansas City Chiefs +145, Chicago Bears -170
Again, if this was a regular-season contest, the Kansas City Chiefs would be an easy pick over the Chicago Bears. However, the Chiefs don’t have much to prove at all here and it’d be a shock if any of their starters see significant playing time.
The Bears, meanwhile, will try to get a win for new head coach Matt Eberflus. It’s been a rough few seasons for the organization, but things seem much more promising with Eberflus at the helm.
Since the Chiefs don’t have much to play for, I’m taking the Bears winning to boost their morale.
Prediction: Bears 14, Chiefs 12
Best Bet: Bears ML (-170)
Carolina Panthers vs. Washington Commanders Betting Odds
- Date: Saturday, Aug. 13 @ 1 p.m. ET
- Spread: Carolina Panthers +2.5 (+100), Washington Commanders -2.5 (-120)
- Total: OVER 37 (-110), UNDER 37 (-110)
- Moneyline: Carolina Panthers +135, Washington Commanders -160
The Carolina Panthers are coming off a disappointing 5-12 season and hope to turn things around starting with a Week 1 NFL preseason victory. It’ll be intriguing to see if 2022 draft picks OT Ickey Ekwonu and QB Matt Corral get playing time as both players could be key fixtures in the organization for years to come.
The Washington Commanders experienced their own shortcomings last year, too. Unfortunately, there isn’t much to love on their roster as they’re another top-heavy team without much depth. Even with them being favored at home, I have my doubts about the Commanders this week.
Prediction: Panthers 17, Commanders 12
Best Bet: Under 37 (-110)
Indianapolis Colts vs. Buffalo Bills Betting Odds
- Date: Saturday, Aug. 13 @ 4 p.m. ET
- Spread: Indianapolis Colts +1.5 (-110), Buffalo Bills -1.5 (-110)
- Total: OVER 34 (-110), UNDER 34 (-110)
- Moneyline: Indianapolis Colts +100, Buffalo Bills -120
The Indianapolis Colts and Buffalo Bills are seen as two of the AFC’s contenders ahead of the 2022 NFL season. Having said that, fans are unlikely to see too many starters as neither team is looking to prove much.
The Bills have been the better team of the two in recent years, however, the Colts won’t make things easy for them this week. Regardless of who walks out the victor, I expect a low-scoring affair from two teams with solid defenses.
Prediction: Bills 15, Colts 12
Best Bet: Under 34 (-110)
Seattle Seahawks vs. Pittsburgh Steelers Betting Odds
- Date: Saturday, Aug. 13 @ 7 p.m. ET
- Spread: Seattle Seahawks +3 (-105), Pittsburgh Steelers -3 (-115)
- Total: OVER 36 (-110), UNDER 36 (-110)
- Moneyline: Seattle Seahawks +140, Pittsburgh Steelers -165
The Seattle Seahawks are set to begin their post-Russell Wilson era and the truth is that their remaining QB options are far from impressive. A group centered around Drew Lock, Geno Smith and Jacob Eason leaves a lot to be desired, putting a lot of pressure on the run game and defense to succeed.
Similarly, the Pittsburgh Steelers are also beginning life without franchise QB Ben Roethlisberger. Nevertheless, the Steelers’ QB situation is a lot more favorable than that of Seattle and should give them an edge in the matchup. If the defense and supporting cast steps up, Pittsburgh won’t have too much trouble handling their opponents at home.
Prediction: Steelers 24, Seahawks 14
Best Bet: Steelers -3 (-115)
Miami Dolphins vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Betting Odds
- Date: Saturday, Aug. 13 @ 7:30 p.m. ET
- Spread: Miami Dolphins -1.5 (-110), Tampa Bay Buccaneers +1.5 (-110)
- Total: OVER 31.5 (-105), UNDER 31.5 (-115)
- Moneyline: Miami Dolphins -120, Tampa Bay Buccaneers +100
The Miami Dolphins enter their first NFL preseason game looking to start off Mike McDaniel’s head coaching career on a positive note. There’s no excuse for QB Tua Tagovailoa not to take his game to the next level thanks to new weapons and an improved offensive line. It remains to be seen how many of these new additions fans will see on Saturday.
A veteran-filled team like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will likely rest most of their starters to begin the preseason. They’re already familiar with most of their players so there isn’t really anything for them to prove, compared to the Dolphins players fighting to make their new-look squad.
Prediction: Dolphins 17, Buccaneers 10
Best Bet: Dolphins -1.5 (-110)
New Orleans Saints vs. Houston Texans Betting Odds
- Date: Saturday, Aug. 13 @ 8 p.m. ET
- Spread: New Orleans Saints -1.5 (-110), Houston Texans +1.5 (-110)
- Total: OVER 33.5 (-110), UNDER 33.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: New Orleans Saints -125, Houston Texans +105
The New Orleans Saints are yet another team with a new head coach in Dennis Allen. The Saints offense was dreadful last season, leaving Saturday’s game as an opportunity to show fans that things are different. With the loss of offensive tackle Terron Armstead this offseason, it’ll be interesting to see if the offense suffers.
Lovie Smith is the Houston Texans’ new coach, however, his track record isn’t amazing. He went 8-24 over two seasons with the Buccaneers and it isn’t like the Texans have given him a strong roster to work with. Expect a lot of lower-level players fighting for jobs in this one with New Orleans coming out on top.
Prediction: Saints 23, Texans 12
Best Bet: Saints -1.5 (-110)
Dallas Cowboys vs. Denver Broncos Betting Odds
- Date: Saturday, Aug. 13 @ 9 p.m. ET
- Spread: Dallas Cowboys +2.5 (-110), Denver Broncos -2.5 (-110)
- Total: OVER 32 (-110), UNDER 32 (-110)
- Moneyline: Dallas Cowboys +120, Denver Broncos -140
The Dallas Cowboys lost several key players this offseason, including Amari Cooper and Randy Gregory. Though their roster is still talented, they aren’t exactly in better shape compared to last year. It wouldn’t be surprising if this was a game mostly dominated by Dallas’ backup players.
At the same time, the Denver Broncos hope to contend for a Super Bowl now that Russell Wilson is under center. The Broncos have several young and hungry players hoping to crack the roster, including rookie linebacker Nik Bonitto. Tim Patrick’s season-ending ACL tear also means Denver will likely audition wideouts to see who can step up.
Prediction: Broncos 24, Cowboys 18
Best Bet: Over 32 (-110)
Los Angeles Rams vs. Los Angeles Chargers Betting Odds
- Date: Saturday, Aug. 13 @ 10 p.m. ET
- Spread: Los Angeles Rams +3.5 (-110), Los Angeles Chargers -3.5 (-110)
- Total: OVER 29.5 (-110), UNDER 29.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Los Angeles Rams +145, Los Angeles Chargers -170
Expectations are at an all-time high following the Los Angeles Rams’ Super Bowl LVI victory. Head coach Sean McVay will likely rest his starters after last season’s championship run, so don’t expect to see the Rams even close to being at full power.
The Los Angeles Chargers are a different story. They’re a young and hungry team that’s looking to take the next step in a loaded AFC West. I don’t expect them to play a lot of their starters, however, position battles on at offensive positions like wide receiver and running back could bring out the best in the Chargers.
Prediction: Chargers 16, Rams 10
Best Bet: Under 29.5 (-110)
NFL Preseason Week 1 Odds — Sunday, Aug. 14
Minnesota Vikings vs. Las Vegas Raiders Betting Odds
- Date: Saturday, Aug. 13 @ 4:25 p.m. ET
- Spread: Minnesota Vikings +3.5 (-115), Las Vegas Raiders -3.5 (-105)
- Total: OVER 34 (-110), UNDER 34 (-110)
- Moneyline: Minnesota Vikings +140, Las Vegas Raiders -165
The Minnesota Vikings’ roster is mostly set, so expect to see QB Kellen Mond under center instead of Kirk Cousins. The 23-year-old sophomore only completed 28-of-51 passes last preseason (54.9%), recording 310 passing yards and an interception while being sacked once. Given that his training camp hasn’t been too amazing, expect more of the same.
The Las Vegas Raiders started their preseason last week with a huge 27-11 victory over the Jaguars. The Raiders racked up 159 rushing yards and three TDs on a combined 33 carries, which bodes well against a Vikings defense that gave up an average of 130.7 yards on the ground per game (No. 26).
Prediction: Raiders 22, Vikings 19
Best Bet: Over 29.5 (-110)
