Packers @ Eagles Analysis & Breakdown
Jordan Love and Jalen Hurts will take the field tomorrow night with their respective squads, looking to start the season on the right foot. Both teams ended last year very differently, the Eagles lost 6 of their L7 games; including their Wild Card matchup with the Buccs.
The Packers, on the other hand, won 7 of their L10 games to close out the regular season, and beat the Cowboys in the Wild Card Round. They eventually lost to the Niners in the Divisional Round, but they really outperformed even the loftiest of expectations last year.
The Eagles are entering 2024/25 with a new offensive co-ordinator in town. Kellen Moore joins this Eagles offense that averaged 24.6 points per game last year but sputtered to finish out the year.
Philadelphia scored mored than 20 points just twice in their final 7 games, with Hurts averaging just over 200 yards per game and throwing just 6 touchdowns to 5 interceptions. The addition of their new offensive co-ordinator should help alleviate dry spells like they faced last year.
Moore was the brains behind a Rams team that averaged 23.4 points per game (9th) and a Cowboys offense that averaged 26.8 ppg in 2022.
The Packers return most everyone on their team outside of starting running back Aaron Jones, whom they replaced with former Raider, Josh Jacobs. Green Bay averaged 23.8 ppg (8th) but averaged 26 per game over their L12 games; including the playoffs.

The only big offensive piece the Packers lost this off-season was starting running back, Aaron Jones. He played in just 11 games for the Packers last year, averaging just under 60 yards per game and he scored just 3 touchdowns all year.
Green Bay replaced Jones with another bonafide star, Josh Jacobs. Jacobs averaged 62 rush yards per game behind an abysmal Raiders offensive line.
Last year the Packers’ ranked 14th in rush yards per game, averaging just under 115 per game; but averaged 129 rush yards per game over their L9 games. Aaron Jones saw 20+ carries just 5 times all year last season, recording 70 or more yards in every one of those games and 100+ in 4 of the 5.
Jones averaged 16.4 touches per game over the last 5 seasons and Jacobs has averaged 20.6 in the same time frame. Jacobs is very capable of being a 3-down back and Head Coach Matt LaFleur agrees.
Green Bay will be without AJ Dhillon all year due to a neck injury during the pre-season and will have rookie MarShawn Lloyd backing up Jacobs in the backfield. Jacobs looks poised to handle 18-21 carries in Week 1 and I fully believe he starts his career with Green Bay in a big way.
The Eagles did a lot to bolster their secondary in the off-season by bringing in guys like Isaiah Rodgers and drafting 2 cornerbacks in this years NFL Draft. With everything they added in coverage, they did lose some key pieces on that defensive line.
Hassan Reddick is now in a contract stand-off with the Jets and starting DT Fletcher Cox retired during the off-season. The Packers paid Jacobs in the off-season to commit to the run game;, look for that commitment to show in Week 1.

After everything I said about two high powered offenses, with offensive minded coaches; why are we taking the under? The total in this game feels a little high to me with both teams not only on the road, but playing down in Brazil.
The Eagles offense last year sputtered to finish out the year, but it was their defense that really let them down. Philly ranked 30th in points allowed last year, allowing 25.2 points per game and giving up 252 pass yards per contest (31st).
This was the main problem Philadelphia addressed in this off-season. They drafted two cornerbacks in this year’s NFL Draft, and signed one of the top cornerbacks in the league in Isaiah Rodgers. Rodgers’ looks like he may not be able to suit up for this contest, but the lack of a pass defense was something the Eagles addressed before the season begins.
The Packers on the flip side ranked 10th in points allowed last year, despite a 9-8 record. They were giving up just 20.6 points per game and just 206.8 pass yards per game. Shut down corner Jaire Alexander looks ready for another Pro-Bowl type year and the Packers’ defense looks just as formidable as it did last year.
It’s really tough for me to be taking an under so soon this year, but with this being just the 2nd Primetime Game of the year, I’m once again ready to ride a Primetime Under.
