Expect Low-Scoring Raiders vs. Jaguars Matchup

The Raiders and Jaguars are two teams that have a lot to prove in 2022.

On one hand, Las Vegas looks like a contender after bolstering their roster this offseason, adding the likes of All-Pro WR Davante Adams and former Super Bowl-winning defensive end Chandler Jones to the mix. It’s also Josh McDaniels’ return to head coaching duties.

On the other, the Jaguars’ lone season under Urban Meyer was an absolute disaster. Now, Doug Pederson has taken over head coaching duties and hopes to be the key to taking 2021 first overall pick Trevor Lawrence’s game to the next level.

Having said that, any fans hoping to see a star-studded, high-scoring affair at the Hall of Fame Game shouldn’t hold their breath. After all, this is the first game of the preseason, typically resulting in coaches resting their top stars and key playmakers.

In fact, Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson already confirmed that Lawrence won’t be participating in Thursday’s game.

This trend has led to a lot of low-scoring totals in recent iterations of the annual event.

Having said that, the Hall of Fame Game is a tough contest to predict because you never know who’s going to suit up and play. Having said that, both Pederson and McDaniels are hungry to prove what they can do in their coaching return. This might be a “meaningless” game, but a victory can certainly boost a team’s morale.

Having said that, I do think that the Jaguars’ players have more to prove, especially with how young the team is. With the stakes being so low, I can see Jacksonville picking up the upset victory.

As for the best bet, I’m expecting the total to hit the under once again at -106 odds. The total has hit the under one each of the last two Hall of Fame Games and I could see it happening in a third with most of both teams’ starters resting.
