All 32 training camps across the National Football League are underway as of last month, meaning that the 2022 NFL season is right around the corner. Fans are thrilled knowing that the preseason begins today and it’ll begin with this year’s NFL Hall of Fame Game between the Las Vegas Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday, Aug. 4.
This year marks the Jaguars’ first Hall of Fame Game since 1995. They’re participating in 2022 due to iconic offensive tackle Tony Boselli being the organization’s first-ever player to receive an induction.
Meanwhile, the Raiders haven’t participated in the affair since 2006, making this year their first time participating since relocating to Las Vegas. Wide receiver Cliff Branch and defensive tackle Richard Seymour are representing the Raiders with their respective inductions.
For now, here’s a look at the odds for the upcoming Raiders vs. Jaguars 2022 Hall of Fame Game, as well as a betting prediction for the matchup.

Expect Low-Scoring Raiders vs. Jaguars Matchup
The Raiders and Jaguars are two teams that have a lot to prove in 2022.
On one hand, Las Vegas looks like a contender after bolstering their roster this offseason, adding the likes of All-Pro WR Davante Adams and former Super Bowl-winning defensive end Chandler Jones to the mix. It’s also Josh McDaniels’ return to head coaching duties.
On the other, the Jaguars’ lone season under Urban Meyer was an absolute disaster. Now, Doug Pederson has taken over head coaching duties and hopes to be the key to taking 2021 first overall pick Trevor Lawrence’s game to the next level.
Having said that, any fans hoping to see a star-studded, high-scoring affair at the Hall of Fame Game shouldn’t hold their breath. After all, this is the first game of the preseason, typically resulting in coaches resting their top stars and key playmakers.
In fact, Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson already confirmed that Lawrence won’t be participating in Thursday’s game.
This trend has led to a lot of low-scoring totals in recent iterations of the annual event.
Here’s a look at the combined final score of the last 10 Hall of Fame Games (that have been played) to give you a better idea of what to expect tonight:
- 2021: 19
- 2019: 24
- 2018: 33
- 2017: 38
- 2015: 17
- 2014: 30
- 2013: 44
- 2012: 27
- 2010: 23
- 2009: 39
The average combined total of those 10 games is only 29.4 — below the projected total. For comparison, the Raiders and Jaguars averaged a combined 36.7 points per game in 2021 and while that’s far from impressive, it’s a number that should be much higher this year with the offensive improvements that both teams have made.
Having said that, the Hall of Fame Game is a tough contest to predict because you never know who’s going to suit up and play. Having said that, both Pederson and McDaniels are hungry to prove what they can do in their coaching return. This might be a “meaningless” game, but a victory can certainly boost a team’s morale.
Raiders vs. Jaguars Betting Trends
- Las Vegas was 1-5 against the spread (ATS) in six games as the favorite in 2021.
- Jacksonville was 5-10 ATS in 15 games as the underdog in 2021.
- The total hit the under in 10 of Las Vegas’ 18 games (including playoffs) in 2021.
- The total hit the under in 12 of Jacksonville’s 17 games in 2021.
NFL Hall of Fame Game 2022 Prediction & Pick
As mentioned earlier, the annual Hall of Fame Game is always tough to predict and this year is no different. Having said that, I do think that the Jaguars’ players have more to prove, especially with how young the team is. With the stakes being so low, I can see Jacksonville picking up the upset victory.
As for the best bet, I’m expecting the total to hit the under once again at -106 odds. The total has hit the under one each of the last two Hall of Fame Games and I could see it happening in a third with most of both teams’ starters resting.
