See Picks & Statistics For The GameAn NFC North rivalry game is scheduled for Week 18 of the 2022 NFL season as the Detroit Lions visit the Green Bay Packers for Sunday Night Football. A playoff appearance is on the line for both teams here as a loss would eliminate either Detroit or Green Bay from postseason contention. Needless to say, the stakes are even higher than normal for the latest Lions vs Packers showdown.
After suffering a Week 16 loss to the Carolina Panthers, the Lions bounced back with a 41-10 victory over the Chicago Bears last weekend. Veteran running back Jamaal Williams was the star of the show as he rushed for 144 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries, helping Detroit win for the seventh time in the last nine games.
Meanwhile, the Packers picked up their fourth straight win with a 41-17 blowout over the rival Minnesota Vikings. Green Bay scored three offensive touchdowns, one on defense and one on special teams in the win, proving that this is a much different squad than the one that struggled to start the season.
Betting News has gathered the latest Lions vs Packers odds from BetOnline Sportsbook to help shed some light on the situation, along with a prediction and best bets for the NFL Week 18 game.

Lions vs Packers Prediction and Picks
Lions vs Packers Prediction: Packers 28, Lions 23
Lions vs Packers Picks: Packers -4.5 (Best Value: -115 at BetOnline) & Over 49.5 Points (Best Value: -105 at BetOnline)
Although the 2022 campaign hasn’t gone as planned, the Packers have looked a lot more like their usual selves lately.
Aaron Rodgers and the offense have been clicking during their winning streak, averaging 29.8 points compared to their 22.1 PPG clip this season (No. 14). While Rodgers hasn’t been lights out over that stretch (808 passing yards, four touchdowns, two interceptions), he’s been the cool-headed leader that’s kept his teammates on track.
With the Lions averaging the fifth-most points this season, Rodgers won’t be able to afford to make any mistakes Sunday night. The good news is that the 39-year-old is 18-7 in 25 career starts against Detroit and will be hungry for revenge after a three-interception performance in a loss to the Lions back in Week 9.
However, the Packers won’t need to rely on Rodgers too much if the defense continues stepping up. Green Bay has only surrendered an average of 17.0 points in its last four games, holding opponents to 20 or fewer points in each outing.
What’s even more impressive is that the Packers lead the NFL with 12 takeaways in that span, whereas the Lions only have five. With how Green Bay was able to turn turnovers into points last week, it’s clear that Detroit can’t afford to make any mistakes with the ball.
As talented as the Lions are, it’s important to highlight that they’ve lost three straight trips to Lambeau Field by an average of 13.3 points. Detroit is also 3-17 straight up in its last 20 road games against Green Bay and 3-13-1 in its last 17 away games overall, making it that much harder to trust the Lions.
At the end of the day, the Packers have been in this do-or-die position before and that experience will be the difference-maker. The Lions still have a lot to learn and while they showed a ton of improvements this year, they’ll need to wait until next season to make the playoffs.
The Packers will cover the 4.5-point spread in this game due to how well the entire team has been playing lately. The Lions might be 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games against their rival, but Green Bay’s dominance at Lambeau Field will help the latter win this by a decent margin.
With the over being 12-6 in the Lions’ last 12 games and 5-2 in the Packers’ last seven, I’m expecting a high-scoring contest this Sunday. After all, a chance to make the NFL postseason should bring out the best that both sides have to offer.
