Of the four Divisional Round matchups on tap for the second weekend of the NFL playoffs, the most anticipated matchup doesn’t involve either of the top seeds, who are returning to action after getting to put their feet up for a week. Instead, the biggest anticipation is around the latest matchup between Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills and Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs (6:30 pm ET Sunday, CBS).
The seventh matchup between the Bills and Chiefs in the last four seasons gets the Sunday night spotlight as the last game of the weekend, and it should.
Each of the last three games between the two teams has been decided late, including this season’s Week 14 showdown at Arrowhead Stadium.
Buffalo jumped out to 14-0 lead early in the second quarter, but Kansas City rallied to tie the game at 17 early in the fourth. In the end, Tyler Bass’s late field goal provided the winning points as Kadarius Toney’s offensive offside penalty denied the Chiefs a go-ahead touchdown on their final drive.
Are more dramatics ahead in the rematch at Highmark Stadium? After five consecutive meetings in K.C., including two playoff matchups, the Bills finally get the Chiefs at home for what will also be Patrick Mahomes’ first-ever road playoff game.

Kansas City Chiefs vs Buffalo Bills Prediction and Best Bets
Chiefs vs Bills Betting Analysis and Prediction
Prediction: Chiefs to win
Will this matchup bring out the best in both Allen and Mahomes? Both superstar signal-callers have had their issues and ups and downs this season, but a high-stakes showdown could see one or both play to their best level on Sunday.
But with a cold night in store, the ground game could once again be pivotal for both teams, as it was in their respective Super Wild Card Weekend wins.
In their win over Miami, the Chiefs ran for 147 yards at a clip of 4.3 yards per carry. After toting the rock 20 or more times only once in the regular season, Isaiah Pacheco had 24 carries and tallied 89 yards and a touchdown, while Mahomes had two runs that went for 28 and 13 yards.
In Monday’s win over the Steelers, the Bills racked up 179 rushing yards on 34 carries, an average of 5.3 yards per carry. James Cook ran for 79 yards on 18 carries, while Allen had eight carries for 74 yards, including a 52-yard score that put Buffalo ahead 21-0 in the second quarter.
This game is one of those that I would rather view impartially instead of having a stake in it, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t have some leans.
Ultimately, as unspectacular as Mahomes’ numbers have been this season compared to other seasons, he is not a perfect 7-0 in the first two rounds and 12-3 overall in the playofs in his NFL career.
A lot has to do with the people around him, but he also has a knack for making winning plays when it matters the most.
That is where Allen has come up short to this point, and until he has his moment, I’m not picking against Mahomes and the Chiefs, even on the road.
