The NFL Week 17 schedule is jam-packed as only two weeks remain in the regular season before the playoffs arrive. This week’s action kicks off with a Thursday Night Football showdown between the New York Jets (6-9) and Cleveland Browns (10-5).
The Jets have done a lot of losing lately, but that wasn’t the case last week when they notched a 30-28 win over the Washington Commanders. Meanwhile, the Browns won their third straight game with a 36-22 effort over the Houston Texans, highlighted by WR Amari Cooper’s historic 265-yard performance.
The Jets might be eliminated from playoff contention but the Browns’ championship quest isn’t over yet. Cleveland currently has the 10th-best Super Bowl LVIII odds (+4500), per BetOnline.
Can New York spoil the home team’s postseason aspirations with an upset on Thursday? Let’s dive into my Jets vs Browns predictions and best bets to find out.

Jets vs Browns Prediction & Best Bet: NFL Week 17 TNF
While this game is relatively meaningless for the Jets, the Browns can’t afford to lose on Thursday. After all, Cleveland is in the thick of the AFC playoff picture and a win over New York would clinch the franchise’s first postseason appearance since 2020 and just the second in the last 21 years.
The good news for the Browns is that momentum is on their side due to a three-game winning streak. Joe Flacco’s play has been a big part of that success as the veteran QB tallied at least 311 yards in each of those starts and just threw for three TDs without an interception against the Texans.
The Jets’ defense was one of their bright spots this season, but the team has surrendered 28-plus points in four of the last six games — including the last two. Furthermore, New York struggles to produce results on the road, losing three consecutive road games while scoring 18 total points ahead of Thursday’s matchup.
Unfortunately for the visitors, the Browns are rock-solid at home, boasting a 7-1 SU record thus far. Furthermore, Cleveland allows an NFL-low 13.1 PPG at home while ranking seventh with a plus-7.4 average scoring margin.
Another thing working against the Jets must start backup QB Trevor Siemian for the second straight game. Zach Wilson was ruled out on Tuesday with a concussion and must pass the NFL’s five-step protocol before being able to return to the field.
While Siemian led the Jets to victory in Week 16, he was far from perfect. The former Northwestern product launched 49 passing attempts but only completed 27 (55.1%) for 217 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Throw in his two relief appearances and he’s only played to a 53.8 passer rating this season.
Siemian can’t afford sloppy play against the Browns, who are tied for the league lead with 1.7 takeaways per game. Cleveland is also a top-10 team when it comes to pressure percentage and sacks, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Siemian is forced to make a lot of mistakes this week.
While upsets are a part of the NFL experience, I’m sticking with the Browns on Thursday. Cleveland’s defense is playing well, Flacco is thriving under center, and the motivation to clinch a playoff spot should have the Browns easily overcoming the Jets.
I do think the home team can cover the spread, as well. While the Browns are 6-2 ATS in their last eight games, the Jets are 1-7 ATS during that stretch, getting outscored by 10.1 PPG. Cleveland is also 7-1 ATS at home in 2023, whereas New York is an abysmal 1-4-1 ATS on the road.
With Siemian’s reputation of being mistake-prone, the Browns are in a good spot to cover as the 7.5-point favorites.

Best Jets vs Browns Player Prop — Week 17 Thursday Night Football
After searching through the Jets vs. Browns player props, I’m taking a Kareem Hunt anytime touchdown.
Despite joining the Browns well after the season began, Hunt has already matched his career high of eight TDs through 13 games. He’s found the end zone in two of his last three outings and now gets to face the Jets, who’ve surrendered eight rushing TDs in their last five games alone and have allowed the seventh-most touchdowns to RBs this season.
With the Browns projected to win big, Hunt is in a good spot to score on Thursday night.
