Green Bay Packers vs Kansas City Chiefs Betting Preview: Can the Packers Win in KC Without Their Main Man?

The big headline for Green Bay’s trip to Kansas City is the absence of Aaron Rodgers. Unfortunately, that takes a lot of the shine off of what could have been one of the best games of the season. Before the news of Rodgers’ positive COVID test, the game was a tossup from an NFL betting standpoint. But with him out of action, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs are favored by a touchdown.

The fallout has also taken the headlines off of the field. But on the field, inexperienced Jordan Love gets the start in place of Rodgers. We finally get to see how worthwhile it was for the Packers to use their first-round pick on him in the 2020 NFL Draft.

The Chiefs are still looking to get things on track this season. They are in the race in the AFC West but are not dominating like they are supposed to.

Needless to say, there is a lot of intrigue around Green Bay right now. Keeping this on the field, we are all a little curious as to what Jordan Love is going to look like. There seems to be little doubt he has the physical tools, but that is only part of being effective in the NFL. Now we finally get to see him in a real game, and a big one.

At least Love has receivers Davante Adams and Allen Lazard back to work with. If he has the right stuff he should be successful. Green Bay’s defense held Arizona to just 21 points last week. They might have to do the same against the Chiefs to give the Packers a chance.

Kansas City won last week, but it was not the kind of performance their backers wanted to see. They don’t have to give it back, but we are still waiting on the team that looks like a top Super Bowl contender. Despite the 4-4 record, the Chiefs are in the top ten on offense in scoring and yards. The key for this game might not be the offense but their defense getting a chance to play against an inexperienced quarterback. It is not Kansas City’s fault that Rodgers is unavailable, but it is definitely to their advantage.

If the Chiefs finally plays a complete game they should cover this with ease. They have burned us all with just two covers this season, but I like this spot. For starters, they are playing at home. They are taking on a quarterback who might be a disaster, and the Packers have nowhere to turn because there is no real QB on the roster to back him up. That also might limit him because they can’t run him and risk an injury. His mobility is a strength but not if they don’t let him use it. Look for the Packers to play this one very safe while KC bombs away.

NFL Betting Prop Watch: Patrick Mahomes Over 2.5 Passing TDs +124

This feels like a bust-out spot to me if throwing for three TDs is even considered a bust-out for a player with the track record of Mahomes. If the defense creates some turnovers against Love, that only creates more opportunities. I look for four touchdown tosses from Mahomes against the Packers.
