One of the best games on the NFL week 10 schedule is an NFC North battle between the Chicago Bears and the Detroit Lions. The weather is expected to be cold at Soldier Field on Sunday, and this will likely be a low scoring affair. Both the Lions and Bears are trying to return to the top of the NFC North division.
Chicago comes into this game with a 5-3 record and is leading the rugged NFC North. The Bears have won two straight games in convincing fashion against AFC East teams. The Detroit Lions come into this game with a 3-5 record and have lost two straight games. The Lions currently sit in last place of the NFC North. The Bears are a 6.5 point favorite over Detroit in this game.
Series History
Lions Offense A Mess
The Detroit Lions have been a mess on offense this season, and that was before they traded their top receiver, Golden Tate. Detroit is averaging just 22.5 points per game this season, which is in the bottom half of the NFL. The Lions gained just 209 total yards in their most recent loss to the Minnesota Vikings, the lowest total since 2010. Quarterback Matthew Stafford has thrown for more than 2,100 yards this season, but the Lions have yet to find consistent production from any of their running backs. The Lions have a slew of offensive injuries that could impact the team on Sunday as well.
Defensively, the Lions are allowing over 26 points per game, which is in the bottom third of the NFL. Detroit has missed Ziggy Ansah on the field for much of the season, and he is questionable for this game as well. The Lions are giving up a whopping 142.5 rushing yards per game this season and will face a pair of talented running backs in this game. Detroit needs to play better on both sides of the ball to hang with the Bears.
Bears Defense Carrying The Load
The Chicago Bears have gone back to their roots, and have one of the top defenses in the NFL. Chicago is giving up just 19.1 points per game, which is the 4th best scoring average in the league. The defense has sacked opposing quarterbacks 24 times already this season and has forced 21 turnovers. Linebacker Khalil Mack is expected to play in this game after missing the previous two, and Chicago should put up a low number against a struggling Lions offense.
While the defense gets all of the headlines, the offense of the Chicago Bears is nothing to look past. Chicago is averaging 29.4 points per game and features a ton of young, athletic playmakers. Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky has been impressive in his second year in the NFL, throwing for close to 2,000 yards and 16 touchdowns already this season. Running backs Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen have combined to score 12 touchdowns this season and should feast on a poor Lions defense in this game.
Bears Beat Lions At Home
The Detroit Lions have dominated this rivalry in the past few seasons, but it appears that the Bears are ready to flip the script. The Lions were supposed to feature one of the top offenses in the NFL, but they have been out of sync this season. Detroit comes into this game with more questions than answers.
Chicago has shown big improvements on both sides of the ball this season, and they appear ready to make a run at the postseason. Mitchell Trubisky leads a very talented offense, and Khalil Mack is a destructive force on defense. The Bears just have too much talent for the Lions, and they will win this game at home. Bet the Chicago Bears -6.5 over the Lions on Sunday.
