Colts @ Packers Analysis & Breakdown
The Packers were dealt a huge blow in Week 1, starting quarterback Jordan Love went down with an injury in the final minute of the game, with reports initially looking like it could be a possible ACL/MCL injury.
Thankfully, Love’s ACL was intact and the Packers have now labeled it as a sprained MCL. Head Coach Matt LaFleur has been adamant that Love’s status is day to day; even saying it’s a possibility we see Love suit up on against the Colts on Sunday.
Both the Packers and Colts kicked off the 2024/25 season with losses, but both teams showed so a whole lot of promise.
The Colts lost to House 29-27, with starting quarterback Anthony Richardson throwing for 212 yards and 2 TD. He added another 56 yards on the ground and even manage to run one in for six. The offenses would go cold at times, but the big play ability of this Colts’ offense can’t be ignored.
The Packers started the season with a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles down in Brazil. Green Bay held a late 26-24 lead, but it was quickly erased by Saquon’s 3rd touchdown of the game.
Both teams enter this game looking for this first win of the season, expect a dog fight.

With the loss of Jordan Love, the Packers will need to lean on Jacobs in Week 2. Despite being the Packers newest player on offense, he’s also one of the vets on this team, now playing in his 6th season in the NFL.
Green Bay represents the youngest roster in the NFL with an average age of 25 years old. Jacobs is their 2nd oldest player on the offensive side of the ball, and their “oldest” skill player. The Packers will need him to step up big in the home opener this Sunday.
Jacobs has shown he’s more than capable of doing just that. In his short 5ish year career, Jacobs is averaging 76.1 yards/game with a 4.3 yards per carry (YPC) average; good enough for 10th among starting RBs over that time frame.
In Week 1, Jacobs had 88 yards on 16 rush attempts, averaging 5.3 YPC. The Packers threw the ball 34 times in their game against the Eagles, running the ball just 21 times; 16 of those rush attempts were Jacobs.
This Sunday with no Jordan Love, the Packers will turn to backup Malik Willis.
Willis hasn’t started an NFL game since 2022, the year he was drafted, and he has yet to throw 100 yards in a single game in the NFL. His career completion percentage sits at 52.2% and he’s thrown 3 interceptions but not touchdowns.
With Willis under center, the Packers will be forced to run the ball with Josh Jacobs. The Colts gave up 213 yards on the ground and 159 yards to the Texans’ starter, Joe Mixon. Mixon averaged 5.3 YPC and was relentless on the ground.
Green Bay’s got an even better running in Jacobs, and after his performance in Week 1, look for them to up his carries and continue to feed their guy the ball.

The Colts scored 27 points in Week 1 but with their 29-27 loss to the Texans, they’ve now lost 11 straight season openers. Richardson put 212 yards through the air, 56 yards on the ground, and 3 total touchdowns; and they couldn’t break the curse.
The Texans run game ended up being too much for the Colts to handle, they surrendered over 200 yards on the ground which lead to the Texans having double the time of possession; 40 to 20 minutes for Houston.
Indianapolis relied heavy on big plays but their offense delivered. Both of Richardson’s touchdown passes were of 54 or more yards, and he averaged 11.2 yards per completion; Taylor was mainly held in check but the Packers’ last week couldn’t contain Saquon.
Barkley ran for 109 yards, scored 3 total touchdowns and added 23 yards through the air; Jonathan Taylor should be fine against the Packers’ front seven.
Green Bay also surrendered 278 yards through the air to Jalen Hurts, giving up a 67 yard touch to AJ Brown to start the 2H. The Packers’ defense has some great pieces, but they’re vulnerable to these same types of big plays.
With Malik Willis getting the start, it’s hard to believe the Packers will generate any real offense, but with Josh Jacobs and Matt LaFleur on the sidelines; I’m confident they can get us the 14-18 points we’ll need from them for this over to hit.
