Cleveland Browns vs Cincinnati Bengals Betting Preview: OBJ Drama Overshadows AFC North Rivalry Showdown in Cincinnati

Cincinnati was flying high there for a little while, but the Jets grounded them last week. Now the Bengals look to rebound against the rival Browns. Cleveland is coming off of a loss too and has to be feeling urgent at just 4-4. Entering the season, NFL betting odds had the Browns as one of the leading contenders for the AFC title, but their preseason positive mojo looks long gone now.

This game has a small spread and looks to be like every other AFC North tilt. There is a good chance that it will be decided by who has the ball last.

Cleveland Browns vs Cincinnati Bengals Best Bet

The Browns are at a crossroads. They lost at home to Pittsburgh last week, which had to sting. They were favorites in the game but could only score 10 points. There were lots of rumors swirling about WR Odell Beckham Jr. over the last week, and though they didn’t trade him, he will be released tomorrow.

It looks like QB Baker Mayfield is healthier this week, and that combined with a lighter Bengals defense should be a good combo. The defense still looks solid but will be tested. Last season, the Browns allowed 30+ points in both games against the Bengals.

Cincinnati was due for a letdown last week, but I didn’t think they would actually lose to the Jets. A defense that looked so good against Lamar Jackson and the Ravens the week before was sliced and diced by the unheralded Mike White.

The Jets were also able to hold WR Ja’Marr Chase, the NFL betting favorite for Offensive Rookie of the Year, to just three catches. There is not much need to worry about the offense long-term, but you have to be concerned that they allowed 34 points last week. Just like the Browns, they had trouble containing the opposition in this matchup last season, as they too allowed 30+ points in both games.

It is never a shock when AFC North teams meet and the home team is favored by a field goal or less. That is what I am getting here, and I am looking for a flip from last season. Last year Cleveland won two high-scoring games against Cincinnati, but this year it will be the Bengals' turn. At home, the combo of Burrow to Chase should win the day. It will be back and forth and could be the best game of the day.

The Browns know all about him by now, but I am still banking on him to find the end zone once again this week. To win the big games you have to hone in on your best players.
