Bengals vs Chiefs Predictions
The Stank:
Fading Patrick Mahomes might be the boldest move in sports right now, but that’s exactly what I’ll be doing this weekend.
The Chiefs delivered an impressive performance in the Thursday night opener of the 2024 NFL season, but it was too close for comfort. Ravens tight end Isaiah Likely narrowly missed a potential game-tying touchdown that could have forced overtime by a literal toenail. Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson had a rough game, missing a wide-open receiver in the end zone just before Likely’s catch out of bounds. The Chiefs had control throughout but kept the Ravens in the game, and if Likely’s catch had been in bounds, the momentum swing would have made for an interesting overtime. The Ravens may have pull off the upset, but we will never know.

On the other hand, the Bengals are once again starting a season a big sluggish, with quarterback Joe Burrow throwing for only 164 yards on 29 attempts in their 16-10 loss to the Patriots as eight-point favorites. Cincinnati managed just 224 total yards of offense. It wasn’t their best game, nor was it for many top teams in Week 1.
So why am I backing the Bengals? Given the Chiefs’ tendency to keep games close, taking the points looks like a solid strategy. If the line were around 2.5 points in favor of the Chiefs, I’d be leaning toward Kansas City, as I expect this game to be decided by a field goal. However, with Joe Burrow and the Bengals having a week to regroup and prepare, I believe Cincinnati’s offense will bounce back strongly at Arrowhead. Additionally, the Bengals have had this game circled for months and will be highly motivated, unlike their lackluster performance against the Patriots.
If you can find the Bengals at +6, take it. Alternatively, you might want to wait and see where the line moves. I anticipate a close game, likely decided by a field goal, so always shop around for the best number to maximize value.
Prediction: Chiefs win
