Chiefs vs Vikings Week 5 Preview
Even though the Vikings have momentum on their side, this week brings a different test to the table.
Beating the winless Panthers was one thing, but now the Vikings must take on the Super Bowl Champion Chiefs. Kansas City has rattled off three consecutive victories heading into the Week 5 clash, earning those victories by an average margin of 14 points.
Even though the Chiefs’ offense didn’t explode against the Jets, that could change come Sunday. The Vikings’ defense leaves much to be desired, especially through the air where they allow 233.5 passing yards (No. 21) and 1.8 passing touchdowns (T-No. 25) per game on a 76.6% completion rate (No. 31).
Unfortunately for Minnesota, Kanas City QB Patrick Mahomes has been strong on the road lately. He’s led the Chiefs to six straight road wins dating back to 2022, completing 72.5% of passes for 1,580 passing yards and 12 TDs to six INTs during that span.
It’ll be interesting to see if Vikings QB Kirk Cousins can keep pace with Mahomes. The 35-year-old veteran is off to a strong start to the 2023 campaign, leading the NFL in both completions (108) and touchdown passes (11).
At the same time, the Chiefs’ defense has been stellar. Andy Reid’s team is only allowing 15.0 points (T-No. 5) and 294.5 total yards (No. 8) per game while also being tied for the eighth-best third-down defense.
Another thing the Vikings have working against them is their inconsistency when it comes to covering the spread. They’re a dismal 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 games and have failed to cover in five straight outings at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs are 8-1 ATS against their last nine NFC opponents while being 4-2-1 ATS in their seven previous encounters with the Vikings.
Chiefs vs Vikings Prediction — Week 5
Until the Vikings beat a legitimate team, I can’t expect them to defeat a Super Bowl contender. The Chiefs are among the NFL’s elite for a reason and shouldn’t have problems putting up numbers against Minnesota’s suspect defense.
The Chiefs will shake off any doubters before coming out of the woods with another victory.
Prediction: Chiefs 31, Vikings 24
Chiefs -3.5 (-105 on SportsBetting)
Chiefs vs Vikings Player Prop — Week 5
When it comes to the plethora of Chiefs vs. Vikings player props available, all signs point to a Travis Kelce anytime touchdown being a good idea.
The elite tight end has already found the end zone twice through three games and is, by far, Mahomes’ favorite target. The Vikings are already tied for allowing the sixth-most passing TDs (7), which includes two surrendered to tight ends.
Unless Minnesota’s secondary has its best showing in a long time, Kelce will be a scoring threat from kickoff to the final whistle.
Bet: Travis Kelce Anytime Touchdown (-167 on SportsBetting)
