Bears vs Lions Predictions
There’s nothing quite like football on Thanksgiving—the smell of food wafting into the living room, your dad somehow half-asleep on the couch before noon, and you, on your fifth mimosa, scrolling through your favorite sportsbook looking for action before the Bears vs. Lions kickoff at 12:30 Eastern. If that sounds like your kind of day, look no further—I’ve had this game circled for weeks.
Turkey Day History
The 10-1 Detroit Lions host the 4-7 Chicago Bears for their 19th Thanksgiving Day matchup, all of which have been played in Detroit. Historically, the Bears hold a slim 10-8 advantage in these Turkey Day games. Does Detroit need any extra motivation to even that record? Probably not. But will head coach Dan Campbell find a way to turn this into a rallying cry? Absolutely. It’s Dan Campbell—he will do anything to get his team fired up and ready.
Lions’ Dominance
This year, the Lions don’t need much help getting hyped. They’ve been the NFL’s feel-good revenge story, shedding decades of mediocrity to establish themselves as arguably the league’s best team. And if their recent performances are any indication, they’re not slowing down. Coming off back-to-back blowout wins by a combined 64 points, Detroit has allowed just six points over those two games. If you combine the spreads from those games, the Lions still would’ve cleared the 21-point total by 43 points. That’s not just dominance—that’s comedy.
Unbearable Struggles
Meanwhile, the Bears… well, they’ve had a tough go of it. This season has been a highlight reel of heartbreak: a Hail Mary loss to Washington, a blocked game-winning field goal against the Packers, and, just this past weekend, an overtime stumble against the Vikings. They simply cannot close games. Over their last five outings, Chicago is 0-5 straight up and 1-3-1 against the spread. Normally, I’d root for a team looking to bounce back, but Detroit is operating on a different level. In their last five games, the Lions are 5-0 straight up and 4-1 against the spread. The Bears? They’ve been busy shooting themselves in the foot two weeks in a row.
Chicago does boast a respectable defense, holding opponents to under 340 total yards and fewer than 20 points per game. But here’s the thing—Detroit’s offense is an entirely different animal. The Lions are averaging nearly 40 points per game at home and piling up over 415 total yards per contest. That’s a level of firepower the Bears haven’t faced this season.
For Caleb Williams and the Bears’ offense, keeping pace with the Lions feels like a monumental challenge, especially on a short week of preparation and with the pressure of one of the biggest games of his young career.
Line Movement
This game opened with the Lions as 10.5-point favorites, and as of Monday, that number hasn’t budged. The sweet spot here would be -9.5, but don’t hold your breath—the line likely won’t dip below 10. If you see it at 10, grab it. If it climbs higher, tread carefully unless you’re supremely confident. Yes, Detroit is the better team by a mile, but it’s a divisional matchup on a short week—kickoff is at 12:30 Eastern, after all. Still, if there’s one team that looks primed to give fans something to feast on, it’s the Lions.
Happy Thanksgiving—and good luck!
