Broncos vs Bears Week 4 Preview
There’s nowhere to go but up when the Broncos and Bears meet.
I have a hard time believing that the Broncos will be as bad as they were last week. There have only been 70 points scored a handful of times in NFL history and Sean Payton is a good enough coach to get his team back on track (in theory, at least).
The first step to the Broncos turning things around is a better defensive effort. The good news is that the Bears’ offense isn’t exactly threatening anyone. Chicago is only averaging 15.7 points (No. 27 in the NFL) and 250.0 total yards (No. 29) per game, as well as 4.4 yards per play (No. 28).
That’s without mentioning how the Bears have turned the ball over six times (T-No. 5), which includes four interceptions from Justin Fields. Speaking of Fields, the offensive line has allowed him to be sacked 13 times (No. 2) while facing pressure on 25.7% of dropbacks (No. 10).
The Broncos are far from perfect, but their offense isn’t add bad as their opponent's. Denver still averages 23.0 PPG (T-No. 15) and 340.7 total yards (No. 15).
Broncos QB Russell Wilson might not be in his prime, but he’s still averaging a career-high 263.7 passing yards this season. He now gets the juicy matchup of facing a Bears secondary that allows the third-most passing yards and touchdowns per game in 2023.
It’s also worth pointing out that the Broncos’ first two losses of the season came by two or fewer points, proving that they are capable of keeping things close. Meanwhile, each of the Bears’ three losses came by at least 10 points.
It’ll also be interesting to see which skid comes to an end on Sunday. The Broncos have lost six consecutive road games while the Bears have lost 10 in a row overall on top of their not winning at Soldier Field since Sept. 25, 2022.
Broncos vs Bears Prediction — NFL Week 4
In a game between basement-dwellers, I’m taking the Broncos to win. Last week’s blowout loss to the Dolphins should be a wake-up call and the Bears are the perfect team to take out the aggression on.
Prediction: Broncos 21, Bears 16
Broncos -3 (-125 on Bovada)
Broncos vs Bears Week 3 Player Prop
Although the odds for Broncos vs. Bears player props aren’t available at the time of writing, I like the idea of Denver WR Courtland Sutton scoring an anytime touchdown.
Sutton played well in last week’s blowout, catching 8-of-11 targets for 91 yards and a touchdown, giving him two TDs in three games. Fortunately for him, the Bears are allowing the 12th-most yards to wideouts and have already surrendered three TDs to the position.
With Sutton clearly being Wilson’s favorite target this season, the veteran has a great chance to hit paydirt again.
Bet: Courtland Sutton Anytime Touchdown (+150 on Bovada)
