Football fans around the nation are buzzing with excitement as the 2022 NFL season kicks off on Thursday, Sept. 8. With 16 matchups to look forward to, there most certainly isn’t a shortage when it comes to betting opportunities.
While betting on traditional markets like the spread and over/under can be fun, there are even more opportunities as far as player and team prop bets are concerned. There is a lot to keep track of, though, which is why Betting News has gathered some of this week’s top props.
Here are some of the best player props and team prop bets that you can take advantage of in Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season.

Buffalo Bills vs. Los Angeles Rams: First Half Total
- Over 26.5 Points (+105)
- Under 26.5 Points (-125)
The NFL Week 1 slate of games opens in a big way with a Thursday Night Football matchup between the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams. Both teams are expected to be near the top of their respective conferences and, if anything, this could be a potential Super Bowl LVII preview.
Having said that, it’s no secret that both teams have some of the best offenses that the NFL can offer. Josh Allen and Matthew Stafford are both great quarterbacks surrounded by playmakers like Stefon Diggs, Cooper Kupp, Gabriel Davis, Allen Robinson and more.
Even with the Bills and Rams posting strong defenses, I’m expecting the offenses to be flowing from the start. Los Angeles will be celebrating its Super Bowl victory in front of its home crowd while Buffalo looks to pull off an upset. It’s the perfect storm for a high-scoring game.
With both teams looking for a hot start, I could see the halftime total sitting at over 26.5 points. Even if the under is being favoured, all it’ll take is two touchdowns a piece for the Bills and Rams to hit the cover.
Considering how strong both offenses are, that shouldn’t be an issue.
Indianapolis Colts vs. Houston Texans: Jonathan Taylor Rushing Yards
- Over 99.5 Yards (-114)
- Under 99.5 Yards (-114)
Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor broke out in 2021, ending the season as the NFL’s best rusher, leading the league in carries (332), rushing yards (1,811) and TDs on the ground (18).
The good news for Taylor is that he has a great opportunity to pick up from where he left off. After all, the Colts have an NFL Week 1 matchup against the lowly Houston Texans — a team that the third-year rusher had a lot of success against last season.
Taylor absolutely destroyed the Texans in two meetings against the Colts’ rivals last year. He toppled 140 rushing yards in both meetings, racking up a total of 288 yards and four touchdowns on 46 carries.
Taylor is the straw that stirs the drink in Indianapolis’ offenses, so look for him to rush the ball often against the Texans. The Colts will likely get a big lead at some point before turning the ball over to Taylor, who should see more than enough carries to finish with 100-plus yards yet again.
Baltimore Ravens vs. New York Jets: First Quarter Spread
- Baltimore Ravens -2.5 (-110)
- New York Jets +2.5 (-110)
The Baltimore Ravens are one of the bigger clear-cut road favorites in their NFL Week 1 meeting with the New York Jets. As of Thursday, the Ravens are 7.5-point favorites on the spread with -102 odds to cover.
While the Jets should be a better team than last year, it’s important to remember that Joe Flacco will be their starting quarterback this week. While he’s no stranger to being a starting QB, he’s only started five games over the last two seasons, going 0-5 while averaging only 171.7 passing yards per game.
Even with the Ravens no longer having Marquise Brown, I still expect Baltimore’s offense to be dangerous. Lamar Jackson is one of the best young QBs, still having the likes of Rashod Bateman and Mark Andrews to help him build an early lead.
With the Ravens having a dynamic defense and solid offense, I don’t see why they wouldn’t be leading by at least three points after the first quarter. Look for Baltimore to get things rolling early and often.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Dallas Cowboys: Mike Evans Any Time Touchdown Scorer
- Mike Evans – Any Time Touchdown (-105)
The last time the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Dallas Cowboys met was just last year, resulting in a total of seven touchdowns being scored between the two sides. Needless to say, fans and bettors hope for more of the same this year.
If there are a lot of TDs to be had, expect Buccaneers wideout Mike Evans to get in on the action. The 29-year-old veteran has a whopping 27 touchdowns since the start of the 2020 NFL season, which only trails Davante Adams (29) over that stretch.
Evans found the end zone in nine different games last year, amassing 14 total by the end of the regular season. He kept the trend going in the playoffs, scoring a TD in each of Tampa Bay’s postseason games.
Even though he didn’t score against the Cowboys last year, don’t let that sway you. Evans is one of Tom Brady’s favorite targets and with the game taking place on the Sunday Night Football stage, there’s a good chance that the Bucs will heavily rely on the veteran WR.
