See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe 2022 NFL season is nearly at its halfway point as we’ve reached Week 8. One matchup worth keeping an eye on is an NFC West showdown between the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
The 49ers’ Christian McCaffrey era didn’t get off to a good start last week. San Francisco was on the wrong side of a 44-23 blowout against the Kansas City Chiefs last week, which saw Kyle Shanahan’s club give up 529 yards on only 58 plays while also committing three turnovers.
Meanwhile, the Rams look to resume their campaign after being on bye last week. They defeated the Carolina Panthers, 24-10, in their last outing and will need more outings like that one to re-establish themselves in the NFC playoff picture.
Betting News has gathered the latest 49ers vs Rams odds from BetOnline Sportsbook to help shed some light on the situation, along with a prediction and best bets for the NFL Week 8 game.

San Francisco 49ers vs Los Angeles Rams Prediction and Picks
49ers vs Rams Prediction: 49ers 27, Rams 23
49ers vs Rams Picks: 49ers -1.5 (Best Value: -108 at BetOnline) & Under 42.5 Points (Best Value: -105 at BetOnline)
While the Rams may be the defending Super Bowl Champions, the 49ers have gotten the better of them over the last few seasons.
As mentioned above, the 49ers have won eight of the last nine meetings against their NFC West rival. They haven’t lost to the Rams in the regular season since December 2018, which was a 48-32 victory for Los Angeles.
The two sides have already met once this season. Once again, the 49ers were the better team, completely stifling the Rams’ offense en route to the 24-9 victory.
Fast forward a few weeks and both teams need a win for different reasons. The 49ers have now lost back-to-back games by double-digit margins, being outscored 72-37 over that span. Meanwhile, a win would mark the Rams’ second time winning two straight games this season.
Unfortunately, it’s hard to trust the reigning champs. A big part of that stems from Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford’s turnover issues this season. On top of averaging only 262.7 passing yards per game (one of the worst marks of his career), the 34-year-old has already thrown eight interceptions — second-most in the NFL.
As a result of Stafford’s inconsistent play, the Rams are only averaging 17.3 points per game this season (fourth-worst). For comparison, they had a top-10 offense last season, averaging 27.0 PPG (sixth-best)
The 49ers’ offense has also struggled with inconsistencies this season, averaging 20.7 PPG (13th-worst). Obviously, McCaffrey’s presence didn’t provide enough of a boost last week to be a difference-maker, but that should change this time around.
After all, McCaffrey only had a few days to learn a handful of plays before his San Francisco debut. By Sunday, the talented rusher will have had enough practice and studying sessions under his belt to be an integral part in the offense.
Furthermore, McCaffrey has had success against the Rams in the past. He’s averaged 183.5 total yards from scrimmage and a touchdown in two all-time meetings.
With McCaffrey ready to ramp up his workload, the Rams will have their hands full. They’ve already had to deal with the likes of Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle in the past, so adding CMC to the mix will create an even bigger headache.
Though both NFC West teams have struggled, I’ve liked San Francisco’s play more heading into this 49ers vs Rams matchup. It’s just too difficult to trust Los Angeles due to Stafford’s struggles and I’m not sure if Sean McVay is ready for the 49ers’ new-look offense.
I’ll take the 49ers covering the 1.5-point spread since they’ve beaten the Rams by at least three points in each of their last eight victories.
Even though the total has recently hit the under more often than not in this rivalry, I’m expecting the over this week. The Rams want revenge for their loss four weeks ago, while the 49ers will want to show just what their offense can do. The result should be a high-scoring affair.
