With the NFL season just a month away, my excitement for player props has been building. We all enjoy throwing a little shade at the Dallas Cowboys, so why not add to the fun with an under prop to ride throughout the season? This could be the perfect way to keep things interesting and make the most of every Cowboys game.

The Stank:
The lifespan of a running back is shorter than a carton of milk—quick to spoil and even quicker to decline. Ezekiel Elliott’s productivity has dropped sharply, not as dramatically as Todd Gurley’s, but he’s likely got only another year left in the league.
The 29-year-old former Ohio State standout is returning to his old team, and while some might see this as a boost, I’m not convinced. After his lone season with the New England Patriots, Elliott rushed for 642 yards, averaging 3.5 yards per carry on 184 attempts.

The Cowboys’ offensive line will look quite different from the last time Elliott played in Dallas. Longtime left tackle Tyron Smith is now with the New York Jets, and center Tyler Biadasz has joined the Washington Commanders. Replacing Smith is first-round pick Tyler Guyton from Oklahoma, and the center position will be filled by third-round pick Cooper Beebe from Kansas State. Adding a twist, right tackle Terence Steele has been labeled the “weakest link” on this young and banged-up line, which features two standout players, Zack Martin and Tyler Smith.
Given the changes, I don’t expect Elliott to replicate his past productivity in 2024, especially with head coach Mike McCarthy announcing a running back-by-committee approach, meaning Elliott will share carries with potentially three other backs.
With the possibility of injuries and shared playing time, Elliott would need to average around 35 yards per game to surpass 600 yards.

Sure, but his yardage has declined every season since his rookie year. Last season, he averaged 37.8 yards per game, down from 58.4 yards per game in 2022. The trend is clear.
