NFL Week 1 Matchups to Watch
Buffalo Bills at Los Angeles Rams
The Rams will begin their title defense on Thursday Night Football. Their matchup with the Bills will kick off the regular season.
This matchup features two teams with high hopes for the 2022 season. The Bills hold the best odds to win Super Bowl 57, and the Rams are not far behind. This is the most highly anticipated season opener in recent years.
Both offenses were suburb last year, and the defenses weren’t anything to scoff at. If you are looking to bet early, it will be a toss up. The teams are practically dead even in the lines, and the spread sits at +/- 1. The Rams do play at home though, and the Super Bowl champion presentation should fire them up for the start of the season.
Pittsburgh Steelers at Cincinnati Bengals
For the first time in NFL history, the Bengals and Steelers will play in Week 1 of the season. Cincinnati is coming off of, arguably, their best season in franchise history. They lost in the Super Bowl to the Los Angeles Rams but have even higher hopes for the 2022 season.
The Steelers will be without quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for the first time in nearly two decades. They will instead focus on handing the responsibility to Mitchell Trubisky, who signed a two-year deal during the offseason.
This AFC North division rivalry should provide plenty of storylines heading into the season. The odds favor the Bengals, as their offense will be a threat to every team this season. With uncertainty in the quarterback position for Pittsburgh, the Bengals are the safest bet this early in the year.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Dallas Cowboys
Tom Brady is back for Tampa Bay. That’s really all I need to say in order for this to be on the list of must watch games in Week 1. Add the fact that they visit Dallas on Sunday Night Football, and this is a game that will have millions of followers.
The Bucs are coming off a disappointing end to their 2021 season that almost saw the retirement of their star quarterback. The Cowboys couldn’t break their streak of playoff losses, and they fell in the Wild Card round.
Dallas feels like they have one of the best young defenses in the game, and I would agree. Tampa Bay has the best quarterback in the league, statistically, over the past 20+ years. This will be an important game, possibly even for playoff implications later in the season.
The Buccaneers are favored by 2.5 and they hold a slight edge in the moneyline. Betting this game will be a challenge due to the strong defense that Dallas has assembled. My advise? Always bet on Tom Brady to have his team within striking distance at any point in the game.
Denver Broncos at Seattle Seahawks
Russell Wilson will make his first start for the Broncos on Monday Night Football. He will also have to contend with the fact that it’s his first game against his former team.
Normally, this game wouldn’t be on our list of marquee games. However, with a star quarterback making his return to the place that made him famous, it’s not one that we can overlook.
This rematch of Super Bowl 48 might not have the same level of quarterback duel that we would have seen 10 years ago. However, with the Broncos feeling like they are strong contenders in the very difficult AFC West this season, their opening game will be one to watch as they take on an always strong Seattle defense.
The Broncos open as heavy favorites, and as the year progresses, I expect that margin to get even wider. Bet the Broncos early if you want to lock in your Week 1 value.
