Once again, this week’s college football schedule will kick off with some Tuesday night MACtion, and there are a trio of matchups on the agenda for the start of what should be another eventful week around the country. In the standout showdown on the slate, Toledo will visit Bowling Green seeking its tenth straight win (7:00 pm ET, ESPN2).
The Rockets (9-1, 6-0 MAC) are a blown second-half lead at Illinois away from being 10-0 and in the mix for a New Year’s Six bowl, but since that missed opportunity in Champaign, Toledo has been perfect and is already certain of a return trip to the MAC Championship Game.

But they aren’t the only team riding a hot streak at the moment. Since a 27-0 loss at Miami (OH) last month, the Falcons (6-4, 4-2 MAC) have won four straight and remain in contention for the MAC East Division title.
To stay in that race at least until Miami’s home game with Buffalo tomorrow night (7:00 pm ET, ESPN2), Bowling Green will need to repeat last season’s upset at the Glass Bowl, which enabled the Falcons to reach a bowl game for the first time since 2015.

Will Toledo Do It Again on Defense?
In last year’s 42-35 loss to Bowling Green, Toledo had a pretty forgettable defensive performance, as Falcons QB Matt McDonald threw for 395 yards and four touchdowns, including the game-winning score to Ta’Ron Keith with nine seconds left.
That hasn’t happened too often this season, as they (and the MAC’s other top teams, Miami and Ohio) can cite defense as a key factor in their prominent place in the conference standings.
Last week, they put in another solid showing defensively in a 49-23 win over Eastern Michigan.
The Eagles managed only 255 total yards, and a good percentage of that production came by way of scoring touchdowns on their final three possessions. By that point, Toledo was already home and dry after scoring touchdowns on all five first-half possessions to take a 35-0 halftime lead.
Since allowing 33 points and 444 yards in a 35-33 win over Northern Illinois on September 30, the Rockets have allowed six points and 206 yards (Ball State), 17 points and 299 yards (Miami), 13 points and 324 yards (Buffalo), and 23 points and 255 yards (Eastern Michigan) in their last four MAC contests.
National Defensive Rankings for Toledo
- Passing Efficiency Defense: 7th
- Red Zone Defense: 9th
- Total Defense: 26th
So, Bowling Green will have their work cut out trying to find a way past Toledo.
That said, Keith and the Falcons are at least heading into this matchup on the right foot offensively.
In last week’s 49-19 win at Kent State, they racked up 476 yards, even with RB Terion Stewart absent due to a right leg injury. Keith, who had nine carries for 103 yards and a touchdown and eight catches for 130 yards and another score, accounting for almost half of that total.
Toledo vs Bowling Green Prediction and Picks
Prediction: Toledo to win
Picks: Bowling Green team total under 20.5 points (-125 at Bovada) & Dequan Finn over 28.5 rushing yards (-115 at Bovada)
In addition to another strong defensive performance for the Rockets, look for Toledo QB Dequan Finn, who was 23 of 27 for 407 yards and three touchdowns in last week’s win, to hit the over on his rushing prop.
Along with throwing for 2,008 yards and 18 touchdowns this season, Finn has run for 499 yards and five touchdowns this season. However, only 86 of those yards have come in his last four games.
But since the start of the 2021 season, he hasn’t gone three consecutive games without rushing for at least 30 yards. After rushing for 17 against Buffalo and 10 against EMU, I expect him to do a bit more on the ground tonight.
