With Texas and Oklahoma off to the SEC next year, Oklahoma State could be one of the teams to beat in the conference next season. But before they look ahead to 2024, the Cowboys have some business to finish in 2023. Tonight, the Pokes will look to reach ten wins for the eighth time under Mike Gundy as they meet Texas A&M in the Texas Bowl (9:00 pm ET, ESPN).
The Cowboys (9-4) were hammered by Texas in the Big 12 Championship Game and missed out on a much more prominent bowl game.
But when they were picked to finish seventh in the Big 12 prior to the season, that rout at the hands of the CFP-bound Longhorns doesn’t take away from the fact that it has been a successful season, especially after the Cowboys started 2-2 and lost their Big 12 opener to Iowa State.

While the Cowboys exceeded expectations, another underwhelming season for Texas A&M brought about the end of Jimbo Fisher’s tenure in College Station and the return of former defensive coordinator Mike Elko, this time with the head man’s headset.
It all could have turned out much, much differently for Fisher and the Aggies, who led in all five of the games that they lost in the regular season and suffered season-ending injuries to first and second-string quarterbacks Connor Weigman and Max Johnson.

Texas A&M vs Oklahoma State Prediction and Picks
Prediction: Oklahoma State to win
If there is one positive thing that can be said about this season for A&M beyond the fact that the Fisher era is mercifully over, it’s that the offense performed well down the stretch with third-string quarterback Jaylen Henderson.
Over the final three games, Henderson completed 67.5% of his passes and threw for 704 yards and six touchdowns, and he ran for 104 yards and two touchdowns, helping the Aggies defeat Mississippi State and Abilene Christian and put a scare into LSU.
A&M’s offense should continue to produce in the Texas Bowl, and I won’t be surprised to see the Aggies finish the season by hitting the 30-point mark for the sixth straight game.
However, I like Oklahoma State to take the win tonight in Houston.
Starting quarterback Alan Bowman, formerly of Texas Tech and Michigan, had an up and down season, but he can be productive.
Also, in RB Ollie Gordon II, who has already announced that he will be back in 2024, the Cowboys have this year’s Doak Walker Award winner. Gordon has run for 1,614 yards and 20 touchdowns this season, but he is also third on the team in catches (37) and fifth in receiving yards (326).
While I think Henderson and the Aggies will do enough on offense to position themselves for a Texas Bowl win, I don’t have enough confidence in their defense to make key stops when it matters. After all, there is a reason why the Aggies’ losses are all in games in which they led.
Picks: Oklahoma State -3.5 & Ollie Gordon Over 104.5 Rushing Yards (Both at BetOnline – Bet These Lines & Get a 100% Bonus on Your First Cryptocurrency Deposit)
Bonus Pick: Jaylen Henderson Over 1.5 Touchdown Passes (+118 at BetOnline)
Henderson threw two touchdown passes in his three starts against Mississippi State, Abilene Christian, and LSU, and that makes the value way too good to pass up here, especially when the ground game hasn’t been as productive as other A&M teams.
