Temple vs Tulsa Week 5 Game Preview
Temple and Tulsa have collided five times over the years, resulting in three victories for the Owls. Having said that, each of Temple’s victories came in the first three meetings while the last two have gone to Tulsa.
The Golden Hurricanes most recently defeated the Owls 27-16 last October, however, that game was played at Lincoln Financial Field. The last time these AAC foes met at Chapman Stadium was when Tulsa obliterated Temple, 44-10, on Nov. 20, 2021.
Things aren’t looking promising for the away team ahead of tonight’s Temple vs. Tulsa showdown.
After all, the Owls have lost 10 straight road games. Even worse than that is that they’re an abysmal 1-14 straight up in their last 15 conference matchups. Although Tulsa isn’t perfect, it still went 3-5 vs. the AAC last season, whereas Temple was 1-7 in that regard.
But while Tulsa has the momentum, not everything is perfect. For starters, the Golden Hurricanes’ offense has been struggling lately, only scoring five offensive touchdowns over the last three games.
Tulsa QB Cardell Williams also didn’t look great last week. The freshman gunslinger only completed 40.0% of passes for 102 passing yards while throwing out two interceptions. He now faces a solid Temple secondary that’s only allowing a 58.7% completion rate (T-No. 48) and 207.7 passing yards per game (No. 39).
Speaking of aerial defense, Tulsa surrenders the third-most passing yards in the country (352.7). Even though the offense was non-existent last week, Temple is still averaging 263.3 passing yards (No. 43) and racked up 230 yards through the air in their last road game.
In other words, tonight’s Temple vs. Tulsa game could be the perfect opportunity for the Owls to end their road woes.
Temple vs Tulsa Prediction Week 5
Even though Tulsa has had Temple’s number in the last two meetings, I’m taking the Owls on the road. Tulsa’s defense raises a lot of concerns, especially in the passing game. Temple’s offense is good enough to take advantage of the situation.
If Williams keeps struggling under center, it will only be more challenging for the Golden Hurricanes to get the job done at home.
Prediction: Temple 28, Tulsa 24 — Temple +3.5 (-115 on BetOnline)
Temple vs Tulsa Player Prop
One Temple vs. Tulsa player prop that I have my eye on is an Amad Anderson Jr. anytime touchdown.
The senior wideout has been the Owls’ best playmaker this year, leading his teammates in receptions (21) and receiving yards (297). Unfortunately, he’s yet to find the end zone through four weeks.
Having said that, Tulsa’s disastrous passing defense makes him a good candidate to score. Not only are the Golden Hurricanes allowing the third-most passing yards, 10 passing TDs thus far, further highlighting Anderson’s odds to score tonight.
Bet: Amad Anderson Jr. Anytime Touchdown (+120 on Bovada)
