What an incredible matchup we have on Saturday. Two Top 10 teams going head to head as the Oregon Ducks travel north to face their neighbors, the Washington Huskies.
Both teams find themselves sitting at 5-0 and 2-0 in conference play. The Ducks beat Colorado and Stanford to open conference play, and have a tough schedule ahead.
The Huskies have played the easier part of their schedule, so the Ducks will be true test for them.
Let’s talk more about this game!

This is going to be a fantastic football game.
Both of these offenses are in the Top 4 in points per game, scoring over 44 each per contest. Washington is 2nd at 46 and Oregon is 4th with 44.3.
Both of these defenses are also in the Top 20 of that category. Washington’s D ranks 20th, allowing just 18.4 PPG, while the Ducks are 6th in the country currently. Oregon allows just 13 points per game to opponents.
Two high scoring offenses, plus two brick wall defenses. Wow. We’ve got ourselves a great showdown.
The total seems a little high for me with where these defenses rank, but I am not going to be on the under of a 40-40 shootout.
I’ll leave the total alone in this one, but I like the Ducks because of their defense.
How Far Can Penix Jr Lead the Huskies?
Michael Penix Jr is 1 yard shy of 2,000 on the year. He has 16 TDs, 3 INTs, and has only been sacked 3 times. His 74.7 completion percentage ranks 5th amongst QBs with at least 100 passing attempts this season.
Ironically, Bo Nix tops that list at 80.4%. Nix has 15 TDs of his own and only 1 INT this season.
Both of these QBs are going to battle in this one, and despite Washington being at home, I think I lean with Oregon.
The Pick: Oregon +3 (-105) BetOnline
Depsite Penix Jr’s passing numbers, Oregon’s defense ranks 1st in the nation, allowing just 8 yards per completion. They drop to 4th in yards per passing attempt, allowing just 5.2.
Oregon allows just 179 passing yards per game, putting them in the Top 15. Even on the road, I like them to slow down Penix Jr and make him look somewhat human.
Washington’s Defense is 76th, allowing nearly 250 yards through the air. I think Bo Nix leads this Ducks team to a victory against the Huskies this Saturday, even with the hardest part of their schedule ahead.
This team looks very focused and I think they could compete with USC for the Pac-12 title.
Oregon hosts #19 Washington State next weekend, and travels to #16 Utah the week after. Personally, I think they pull off all three wins, but they should be extra focused on the road on Saturday.
Bonus Pick: Oregon ML (+130) Bovada
