Although the 2022 NCAA college football season technically began last week, things really kick off in a few days with Week 1. Among the top first-week matchups is a Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game between the No. 11 Oregon Ducks and No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs.
While the Ducks had a respectable 10-4 overall record last fall, their 2021 season ended on a sour note. Oregon lost both the Pac-12 Championship Game and Alamo Bowl to close the year, leading to Dan Lanning taking over head coaching duties going forward.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs head into the new campaign with a ton of momentum following their National Championship victory. Even though a few key players were lost over the offseason, Georgia is still expected to be one of the top teams in the nation.
Here are BetOnline Sportsbook’s latest Oregon vs. Georgia betting odds, as well as a prediction and best bet for the upcoming NCAAF tilt.

Georgia Favored to Begin Season with Victory Over Oregon
Winning a National Championship commands an unprecedented amount of respect. That’s exactly what Georgia is getting right now, as proven by its -900 odds to defeat Oregon to start the new college football season.
To paint a clearer picture, Georgia’s -900 odds translate to an implied probability of 90%.
Nevertheless, it shouldn’t be a surprise to see the Bulldogs heavily favored here. Yes, the Ducks are a solid team, but one of the constants every NCAAF season is that you can count on Georgia being one of the toughest schools to beat.
Even though Georgia lost key players — like George Pickens, Travon Walker and Zamir White — to the 2022 NFL Draft, Kirby Smart’s squad has done a great job at recruiting new talents. Recruits like cornerback Jaheim Singletary and defensive tackle Mykel Williams could be serious contributors for the bulldogs over the next few years.
Several familiar starters are returning as well. Stetson Bennett is back under center after racking up 2,862 passing yards and 29 touchdowns last season. Plus, he’ll have wideouts Adonai Mitchell and Ladd McConkey, as well as tight end Brock Bowers to target again.
As mentioned before, the Ducks are beginning a new era with Lanning behind the bench. This marks the 36-year-old’s first head coaching gig after spending the last few seasons as a linebacker coach and defensive coordinator for the opposing Bulldogs.
Any first-year coach is bound to have struggles, especially with Oregon not having its best roster. While the Ducks’ defense should look a lot better this year, the offense has a lot to prove and hinges on whoever plays under center — either Bo Nix, Ty Thompson or Jay Butterfield.
Regardless, the Bulldogs have the advantage over the Ducks in nearly every position on both sides of the ball. While Oregon won’t fully be shut down, Georgia will likely control every aspect of the game, giving its opponents very little breathing room.
While it’d be fun to see Lanning get a win over his former team, all signs point to a big home win for the Bulldogs.
Oregon vs. Georgia Betting Trends

- The total has hit the under in seven of Georgia’s last 10 games as the favorite.
Oregon vs. Georgia Prediction and Picks
Oregon vs. Georgia Prediction: Georgia 39, Oregon 22
Oregon vs. Georgia: Oregon +17.5 (Best Value: -110 at BetOnline) & Over 53.5 Points (Best Value: -110 at BetOnline)
The Bulldogs are defending National Champions for a reason and I don’t expect the Ducks to give them too much trouble in Week 1. While Oregon’s defense could be frustrating at times, Georgia has the offensive talent to put the game out of reach.
Having said that, a 17.5-point spread is significant and I could see Oregon keeping things close enough to cover the spread. There’s also enough offensive power here where both schools should be able to combine for the over on the total.
