See Picks & Statistics For The GameTonight, one of the biggest rivalries in college football will be renewed in Starkville, Mississippi. It has been a disappointing season for Mississippi State, but they will enter tonight’s Egg Bowl against Ole Miss with a chance to knock the Rebels out of contention for a possible New Year’s Six bowl and secure their own bowl eligibility (7:30 pm ET, ESPN).
The Bulldogs (5-6, 1-6 SEC) have not won the Egg Bowl in consecutive seasons since winning three in a row from 2009 to 2011, and they have won only one of the last four Egg Bowls played in Starkville.
The odds aren’t at all in their favor tonight, which is no surprise given the contrasting fortunes between the two teams this season.

While Ole Miss (9-2, 5-2 SEC) is chasing the best possible bowl destination and a second ten-win season in three seasons, Mississippi State is hoping to just have a bowl destination, period.
After head coach Zach Arnett was fired, the Bulldogs maintained their hopes for a 14th straight bowl appearance by defeating Southern Miss last Saturday. Can they make it a triumphant Turkey Day and pull the upset at home?

Will Things Get a Little Weird and Wild Again in the Egg Bowl?
If you have watched a few editions of the Egg Bowl, you will know that things can get a little wacky.
In last year’s game in Oxford, the Rebels took a 16-7 lead in the second quarter, then the Bulldogs scored 17 straight points to take a 24-16 lead and were at the Ole Miss one-yard line with a chance to all but ice the game in the fourth.
Then came a fumble and a 99-yard touchdown drive for the Rebels, which set up an opportunity to tie the game with less than a minute and a half remaining.
But Mississippi State foiled Ole Miss’s two-point conversion attempt, recovered the ensuing onside kick, and closed out the win in what would be Mike Leach’s last game before his untimely passing the following month.
What’s in store for this year’s matchup?
While the Rebels have largely had no issues putting points on the board this season, a big part of why the Bulldogs are now in the market for a new head coach is their inability to do so.
Part of that can be attributed to quarterback Will Rogers missing four games due to a shoulder injury, but even when he has been healthy, the offense has had its struggles.
Rogers returned to action against Southern Miss and threw two touchdown passes, but he completed only 12 of 27 passes. If the Bulldogs are to have a shot tonight, Rogers will need to be sharper, and the run game will need to follow last week’s 238-yard effort with another productive performance.
Ole Miss vs Mississippi State Prediction and Best Bets
Prediction: Mississippi State to win
Best Bets: Mississippi State +9.5 (-105 at Bovada) & Mississippi State team total over 21.5 points (-105 at Bovada)
An Ole Miss win is certainly the most likely outcome, but as mentioned above, things don’t always go according to the script or the odds in the Egg Bowl. With that in mind, let’s roll with some chaos.
