It’s time for one of the biggest matchups of the college football season, as Oklahoma and Texas face off in Dallas. And this time around, the Red River Rivalry has even more spice to it, as both teams have the Big 12 title in their sights this season.
Texas has stepped up since losing to longtime rival Arkansas, and they have opened Big 12 play with wins over Texas Tech and TCU. Last week, the Longhorns went to Fort Worth and edged out the Horned Frogs. TCU had dominated Texas in recent years, but the Longhorns played to their strengths to take a big road win.
The Sooners also come in off of a win over an opponent that has given them a lot of trouble as well, as they pulled away in the second half to win at Kansas State.

Oklahoma Sooners vs Texas Longhorns Betting Outlook
The Sooners may be 5-0, but they have not been very impressive this season. In fact, the only game they have covered was a 76-0 beatdown of FCS Western Carolina. For reasons beyond understanding quarterback Spencer Rattler has not yet taken the step that everyone expected him to. Maybe he just needed to warm up as his game against K-State was his best of the season by far. They have won the games they are supposed to though, so they are still in the hunt for the non-Alabama and Georgia spots in the College Football Playoff.
Oklahoma has shown some improvement on defense. It especially bodes well that they are 8th in the nation against the run because that is Texas’ strength on offense. Some of that may be gameplay though. Even though the Sooners have struggled more than expected, they have still been mostly playing with the lead. If they can maintain their season average–83 yards per game–they will almost certainly take down Texas with ease.
Texas Might Have to do More Than Run the Ball This Week
Bijan Robinson leads the way for the Longhorns on offense, and he starred against TCU, rushing for 216 yards with two touchdowns. That is how they were able to overcome a very mediocre day by QB Casey Thompson. Even if Texas can run the ball on Oklahoma, they will likely need a little more from Thompson if they want to win the game.
Against TCU, Texas forced three turnovers and converted each one into points. They will need to win the turnover battle in this matchup if they want to have the best possible chance to win. But while they managed only three field goals off of the turnovers against the Horned Frogs, leaving points on the field against the Sooners could be costly.

Oklahoma Sooners vs Texas Longhorns Best Bet
Oklahoma -3.5
These are two quality teams. Oklahoma just looks a little more complete, and the perfect record tells you that when it comes to needing to make a winning play they have that figured out. I also think that Lincoln Riley is a better coach than Steve Sarkisian and that could make a difference in a close game.
This should be a close game decided by a few key plays that go the Sooners' way. On the flip side, If you like the Longhorns, take the ML. It is worth the extra risk. The small line means that whoever wins probably covers. Only one game in the last 10 in the series has been decided by three or fewer points.
